I have a letter of rec written in Naviance that I was unable to send before my deadline on the 1st. I contacted the teacher but they said that they would be unable to send the rec until after break (Monday). Should I contact the colleges to make them aware that the letter will be late, and if I do should I attempt to explain the situation that I did not realize I would be unable to send the letter, or should I merely notify them? Additionally, when my teacher goes to submit the letter, will they be able to through Naviance or the Commonapp despite the applications already being submitted?
rec letters aren’t due by the deadline. you can send them in after.
you know that the colleges are 100% ecstatic that you applied, right? Their process isn’t meant to be a tightrope walk over a chasm. They WANT to admit you. Remember that. You’re fine
Thanks for the advice. However, I would still like to know if I should be contacting the colleges just to ensure that my letters of recs are matched correctly. This is of particular concern to me regarding Yale, as a supplemental rec was added to my commonapp that I didn’t ask for and I know they don’t take, and I want to ensure that they do get my academic letter before disregarding my application.
bump…please read post directly above
if anything is missing they will directly contact you. Although, I don’t see a problem with contacting them. Do what makes you comfortable.
So to confirm…colleges will definitely contact me before disregarding my application due to a missing rec?
No need to contact them. They’re used to getting rec letters late. They won’t be making decisions in the next week or two anyway.
