I am a very intelligent 8th grader who is currently attending a top NJ private school. I am now looking into elite Prep Schools in NY, but I have passed the deadlines (all fall 2009 and it is now March 2010). Applying to Horace Mann, Trinity, Chapin...all sent me applications even though they're not supposed to anymore. Do I have a good chance?

Some info about me:

SAT:
CR-650
Math-610
Writing-750
(I am aware that my math score sucks, i've done better in the past)

SCHOOL:
Straight A student
All advanced Classes
Honor Roll
Member of every school committee
Eligible for (and probably going to get) awards this year

Extracurricular:
Track star
Violinist
Interested in fashion and travel

being the member of every committee won’t help you much, quality is always over quantity when it comes to this. If you are already at a top schools, why would you want to switch you some others that might not be as good? (I’ve never heard of the schools you listed)

NYC schools are some of the best in the country. Best facilities, best Ivy League acceptance rates, most elite, (it’s where the rich, famous, and intelligent would DIE to go). My school is one of best in NJ, but it’s different standards. It’s like Harvard vs. Georgetown…which would u pick?

There is something in your tone that rankles me; not sure what, but you are coming across as somewhat of a snob. I am sure you are a perfectly lovely person, but take my criticism for what it is worth. If you have interviews, you will need to think about how your answers come across. Declaring in caps that your are totally not a nerd, is offensive and detracting.

I know all the schools you mentioned in NYC. They are all superb schools, equal to the top boarding schools listed frequently here. If you have a chance to go to one, by all means jump at it. However, you said they sent you applications, even though they are not supposed to. Did you ask for them? Do they have rolling admissions? Are you sure they didn’t send them to you with the '11-'12 year in mind?

Finally, keep in mind, for some people Georgetown is a better fit than Harvard.

Didn’t mean to come off snobby. And I seriously respect Georgetown. (Ivy vs. non-Ivy, just generally speaking harvard is more prestigious). In reality, I am a very humble person often categorized as “sweet”. I deny any good things about myself and dismiss all compliments. I just wanted to get accross who i am academically. As for the nerd thing, I wanted to show that I am not totally absorbed in academics and do other things. sorry if i offended anyone.

Those schools are looking for more than stat’s. They have their choice of the best and the brightest. They are looking for a good fit & GREAT breeding. Do your parents have the “right” type of job? This is NYC elitism at its best. Some of my family went to Chapin. It is no joke on that level.

The ‘Im not a nerd’ in caps anoyed me too. Don’t worry we don’t want you Personally I’m not great at listing all my achievements, it embaressed me that’s partially (identity isues to ofcourse) why I never made a chance thread. Coming from a family where I was told never to brag, writing my apps was hard. However I do wish you the best of luck and I would advise you to tone down the ‘im very intelligent’ stuff, we know, one glance at your SATs says that.
