Latest to complete IGETC?

My intended plan was to transfer without IGETC as an engineering major and finish my GEs wherever I transfer to, but I found out that I can finish all my GE courses if I take classes the Summer before the Fall that I transfer. But is this allowed? Can I get IGETC certified after applying and taking Summer courses before attending the school I transfer to?

IGETC certification? No. Course credit? Likely.

The rationale behind this because you are under the standards of your eventual UC campus and not your CC during the summer prior to your transfer. This means that all your classes during summer will be counted (if applicable) toward your UC’s graduation requirements and cannot retroactively count towards an IGETC certification that is based on your previous CC standards.

After your admitted, you should also make sure to let your admissions counselor know that you are planning on enrolling in summer CC courses so they are aware. They will adjust your conditions of admissions accordingly.

@heardwell If you are missing up to 2 courses you can submit Partial IGETC in spring, then once accepted finish the IGETC in summer before transfer and submit full IGETC certification at that time. That is allowable. Berkeley requires full IGETC in spring, and it makes you less competitive at other UCs but is also doable, assuming they accept you.

There’s also an IGETC for STEM where you can miss 3 courses, but you need to be sure the major accepts it and also, it’s vey specific regarding what subject areas can be missing.

Regarding missing more than the 2, I guess you can still apply, noting IGETC will not be complete and then list the three courses you plan to take during the summer for full certification. It really depends on how they feel about it (except Berkeley, which won’t accept it).

IGETC is not an admissions requirement – and summer courses before UC enrollment can fulfill it.

Unfortunately I will not be completing an ADT degree so IGETC for STEM isn’t an option. II was hoping to get into Berkeley or UCLA, where my GEs would’ve been less after transferring compared to IGETC, but now that’s not looking very likely, so I’m considering UCSD now, where IGETC would’ve been ideal due to the College System and missing Engineering courses not offered at my CC. Thanks Anyway!
