Tests:
Low Sat so I plan to apply to test optional schools
Are you male or female? Top 50 in U.S. or another country?
Did you win the southern cal gold, JCT or silver?
Have you taken ACT? Sometimes easier to score higher on ACT as compared to SAT. What was your SAT score? Some coaches can give you a tip depending on how good you are.
Look at Bowdoin, Bates, Bard, Franklin & Marshall, George Washington, Wesleyan
Sgopal2’s list is excellent. I would add Hobart, Dickinson, St. Lawrence and Connecticut College. Trinity in CT is also an option if you have two strong SAT II subject tests to submit instead of the regular SAT/ACT. I would sit down today and contact the coaches at these schools. You can find their email addresses on the team pages of the schools’ websites. They can give you a sense of how interested they are in giving you their support with admissions and can even get a pre-read of your application from the admissions department. If you’re a senior there’s no time to waste because coaches will generally want you to apply in the early decision round, and going ED with a coach’s support can make a big difference to your chances.
Hello: Its great that you’ve won a couple of silver tournaments, however the squash scene in Southern Cal is not up to par with the East coast and other hot spots. So I’m going to be honest with you, its going to be tough to get a coach’s attention, but not impossible.
I really doubt that you’d be competitive for a place like Trinity (which has been national champion like 14 times in a row). They typically recruit players who are #1 or #2 in their country or have done well in top tournaments like the British Open or US Open. However it doesn’t hurt to reach out to the coach. Trinity has one of the largest rosters. There is also room for you to play on a club level squash team. There are lots of schools.
I agree with @sue22. Definitely contact the coaches. Hurry up. Most of the recruiting has already started, and some schools have probably already filled their classes for the entering class of 2016. If you have any videos, send them to the coaches to see what your playing style is like – it is doubtful that many coaches will have seen you play already since you live in CA.
Dickinson, Bard, Connecticut College, Drexel, Fordham, Hobart, University of Rochester, St. Lawrence, and perhaps more. You must speak to the Varsity coaches. I have found that they are honest about chances and what they can do for you if they want you on their roster.
