I understand the washing machines are front loaders and need high efficiency laundry detergent. Is there a vending machine that sells small boxes there at school or do the students have to come with detergent? We have the older top loader at home but use concentrated ALL. Will that work?

I don’t know if there are detergent vending machines.

I know D2 used to shuttle to Target/WalMart/Wegman’s about once a semester to buy detergent and fabric softener. I know the CVS a block or so off campus sells all kinds sundries and supplies in small packages–including laundry detergent and fabric softener. Students can use their URos account at the CVS to make purchases. (Well, except for liquor…that requires cash or credit/debit card.)

There’s also a on-campus convenience store which probably stocks detergent. And another convenience store in the Southside dorms.

Front loaders require special low sudsing detergent. It’s marked HE (High Efficiency) on the package so unless your ALL is marked HE, it can’t be used.

(And ALL does make a HE version. I’ve seen it at Target.)

I’ll go read the label. Sounds like I should send some detergent with him.

S uses Purex 3-in-1 sheets ([Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. Laundry Simplified®.](Liquid Laundry Detergents - Long-Lasting Scents | Purex®)) or a similar Target house brand. It saves lugging heavy containers.

Thanks, I see the Purex packs version also comes in unscented. The sheets are scented. We used unscented detergent so that might be a good solution.

For college men who may not do laundry every week some fresh scent may be good for clothes lying around for periods of time.

True for some My son is a real diligent clothes washer. I havn’t done his laundry in years and he is a much better folder than I am.

The price of a load of laundry and drying may be close to 5 bucks so many kids opt to stuff the machine and save the $$.

Students in on-campus dorms will be swiping their ID to pay for washers and charging their flex spending account. No cash required.

At Riverview, the laundry machines require actual quarters. ($6+ per load since you have to pay for the dryer too.)

Two years ago, washers were $3.50/load and dryers were free.

Best thing is Color Catchers. Add to the wash and you can mix colors. Keep reusing until they’re purple. I sometimes have 3 or so in various stages of turning colorful.
