At home I hand wash my clothing and hang them. Is this feasible at Stanford (especially the hanging part)? Is Stanford dry or humid? (I live in the Midwest, so wet clothing dries off quickly.) Of course, I don't mind using the washing machine and dryer. Just curious.

Just for clarification, are you talking about hand washing all your clothes?

I mean I guess it is possible, maybe not practical. I lived in Wilbur last year and I believe there was a sink down in the laundry room so you could hand wash your clothes. I am not sure about other halls. I've seen some people buy those racks and hang their clothes on there but most people only hand wash a few pieces and hang them.

Stanford tends to be dry, but I don't think washing all your laundry by hand is practical, since washers and dryers are free at all Stanford dorms. You only have to pay for laundry detergent and optionally dryer sheets. I don't know many students who would have the free time to hand wash their laundry and hang it up to dry, not to mention most laundry rooms are pretty cramped.

My daughter hangs some things that don't go through the dryer. Get yourself a folding laundry rack at Bed bath and beyond or Target when you get there. You can put it away in the closet when you aren't using it. Things will dry much quicker there than in the midwest!

Free wash and dry? Excellent! When I was a college kid, we had to take many quarters with us down to the laundry in the basement...and many times I would bring laundry home to my parents. This is way cool! Stanford is high class. :)

Sort of free. You pay for it in your tuition. I forget exactly how they calculate it, but it's something on the order of a couple loads per week...more than the average person probably does, so in reality you (or your parents) are getting overcharged.

But, yes, it is nice not to have to truck quarters down there with you to wash your clothes.
