Law school: Does the school you go to in undergrad matter??

In reality, there really is no thing as International Law. (As you know, most 'international law is just contract/regulatory stuff. The ‘human rights’ jobs are unicorns and not even worth thinking about unless one attends one of HYS.)

Regardless, NYU Law (at sticker) over GULC (at sticker) for everything. OTOH, GULC with big merit money over NYU at sticker every day (unless one is wealthy).

Which brings me to my reaction to the comment: “I don’t like DC…” too bad. It’s professional school, and if the only options are GULC at sticker vs. say, WashU at sticker, DC wins. (unless you really want to work in St. Louis)

“I know Georgetown is great for international policy law, etc. but I don’t really like DC hahaha I really wanna go somewhere like NYU or Columbia or Uchicago or (maybe) even Harvard”

It’s great to have goals OP, but you haven’t even started college yet, let alone take the LSAT. It’s a little early to be deciding between Georgetown and NYU law. Go to a school that is a good fit and work hard to get top grades. That should be your focus now. In a couple of years, see where you stand. Also, “International Policy Law,” to the extent that it even exists, is a tiny niche that few grads (even from top schools) will be able to break into. When I was a 1L (30 years ago), we all used to say that we were interested in “Environmental Law,” which was ridiculous when I look back on it.

@bluebayou I understand that it’s too bad but I haven’t even started freshman year I still have more than enough time to consider all my options and apply to schools
