law school vs business school

I have a interest in both business and law. Currently I'm a college student majoring in Management with a concentration in Finance. In the future I may be interested in pursuing a career of law or finance. However, I don't know that much about the opportunities that a law degree would offer. For instance would it be beneficial for me to have a law and business degree? What are the opportunities available should I decide to pursue this? Finally does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Some universities offer joint JD/MBA programs which take 4 years to complete. NYU is one such school. As for benefit, that depends on your personal goals. I'm currently a business student at Stern, but as I want to go into litigation, I have no plans to get my MBA, just my JD.

The business world and the lawyer world have different cultures - you may want to think about that.

the MBA accompanying your JD will probably add more advantage than your JD accompanying your MBA. that is, a JD might help you in the business field, but you don't necessarily need it. similarily, you don't need a MBA to be successful in the law field, but there's the chance of opening your own private practice or help running the law firm like a business, and that's where the MBA plays in. of course, having both can give you some career flexibility in both fields.
