Lawrence Berkeley National Lab or work at NASA for summer 2014??

Hi everyone. My interests lie within electrochemical engineering & materials science.

I just got an offer from the LBNL SULI program. (I have 10 days to accept the offer.)

However, I am also interested in some of the projects at the NASA labs. My end goal would be to pursue my PhD degree.

So right now I am trying to decide whether I should contact NASA to haste the application process or accept the LBNL one. Which summer programs would increase my chances for a more prestigious graduate school?

Are you applying through OSSI with NASA or something else? Ironically enough I applied to both these programs and am also interested in electrochemical sciences. Haven’t heard back from SULI yet (I believe it’s based on what lab groups take what kind of student).

Both experiences would be beneficial for pursuing a PhD. Going with one or the other won’t determine if you get into MIT versus a tier-3 school. It also depends on what you would be doing with NASA - do you think you would be doing more research and development or research and building a project that they might use? From my personal experience with people in both industries, NASA isn’t as goal-oriented as in they are slacking with their deadlines. The might be wrong, but SULI might be the better option in terms of the work you would be doing and what you would be able to do in the 10 weeks. Plus the 10 day deadline doesn’t help.
