Lawrence EA 2016

My daughter got into all five schools she applied to last year, but L U was the one dearest to her heart. It didn’t give her the biggest aid package (applied to many different types of colleges/some wanted her more than others/some offered ‘zip’ because everybody has different criteria/we were ‘test optional’) but we ‘made it happen’ between the financial aid/student loans/merit aid, and some luck with personal savings in the past.

Good luck with all that drama at home. I remember it well, especially the wait for Lawrence because it was the last decision to come in, and since she wanted it so badly, it was crazy with the ‘what if’s’ before she finally knew one way or the other. That’s why I am posting this year to try and offer a shred of support to others. Good luck. :)

Gosh, this waiting is getting difficult! Lawrence is one of D2’s favorite schools, and is the last school from which we are awaiting a decision. January 30th can’t come fast enough for us!

Collegesearchmom…the waiting, yes, is very hard. And my warning is this: last year the EA decisions were due on the 15th of January, and my daughter was so hoping to find something in the mailbox. Translate to mailed the 15th, and then with MLK Day, it took even a few more days for the news to come. That kid was by the mailbox waiting, and worrying, and making me a bit crazy for several days. Thus, you may not hear on the 31st if everything goes out by snail mail. Stay calm and remember that it happened like that last year. My daughter checked the Voyager, too, and there was nothing in there to give her a hint about admission before the envelope came. Even if some people post that they know something (esp. internationals – I think they hear by email before snail mail), but tell your daughter to hang in there (yeah, impossible to do, right? )

Accepted, got an email yesterday which surprised me because I wasn’t expecting anything until the 30th. Good luck to everybody.
Note: I am am US Perm Res living in Kazakhstan.

Congratulations!

Congratulations, indeed!! I wonder if this means that the rest of the kids will hear sooner? On the LU facebook page there’s a picture of the EA letters waiting for the Dean’s signature…

Accepted with merit aid! Son’s admissions packet arrived today. I see a very tough decision coming in April. But it’s a good kind of problem to have!

Did you get an email too sunmachine? I live in Georgia and I haven’t got anything in the mail. I just checked my admission status online and nothing new says “decision will be mailed on the 30th”

No email, just paper.

Congratuations to your son, Sunmachine! Hopefully my daughter’s decision will come tomorrow!

Just a quick reply: don’t get ‘down’ because some students are hearing before others. Remember that stack of letters awaiting a signature that you saw online. Merit aid letters also come in the same packet…so it takes time to put it all together. I know the kids hunker down by the mailboxes waiting for news each day…but do not get discouraged! Good news can/will come. :)

Interesting thing that I noticed: my letter of admission was sent on the 6th, I got an email on the 22nd and the letter arrived the 24th. I think the email was sent only because international mail has a tendency to get lost or take ridiculous amounts of time to get to their destinations. By the way the merit aid value on the website does not correspond to what I received, does it change year from year?

That’s a great question re: merit aid. The best place to ask would be the financial aid office at the school. They are very good/prompt in getting back to people with questions in my experience. Thanks for the info about the different dates on your letters/email, etc. That might help calm some EA people down as they await the decisions. Good luck with the decision-making! :)

According to Lawrence, they didn’t even mail admission letters until today: “Early Action admission decisions going out Wednesday. We know we said we’d notify Early Action applicants on January 30, but our data entry team really hustled over the past week to process all of our decisions, so we’re planning to drop our letters on January 25, a little ahead of schedule.”

That’s great news for all the h.s. seniors anxiously awaiting their decisions. They do email international applicants earlier, though. I know they told us that last year. People who see your post will be very happy! Maybe because they used to mail those EA decisions on the 15th before this year, they got the work done earlier even though they left themselves two extra weeks of breathing room. Good luck everyone. I hope people post their results here.

Thanks Lawrencemom! I’ve been reading this with much interest! You are the best mom ever! vocemom

Thanks, vocemom! I wish my teen thought so (just kidding). Today she texted from LU: ‘Hey’ and I thought, ‘What’s up?’ She is so used to our texting that she thought I had vaporized when she didn’t wake up to a ‘Good morning’ or something of the sort. I texted that she needs to spread her wings there at LU. I’m always wavering between being a helicopter parent and just letting her be. Thanks for the vote of support. Like I said, I used to read this site like crazy last year without posting. I decided that since the youngest is now out of the house, I’d put in my two cents once in a while. I do know that LU admits lots of kids, that EA can help the odds, and so I’m pulling for everyone who posted in the EA discussion. Many kids choose other schools, and that’s understandable, too. Off I go. One more good luck to everyone who applied EA.

D2 is in! With more merit money than expected! We’re very happy!

A-W-E-S-O-M-E congrats to you/your daughter!

Congrats, collegesearchmom, and good luck to everyone still waiting! We really enjoyed visiting Lawrence, but it was summer so not so many students around, though our tour guide, a Lawrence student from Ghana, was especially good. Hopefully S2 can go to the admitted students day in April.
