Hi! Does anyone have any insight or info on lawrence university in wisconsin? Is it a good place for a vegan? How is the location? Any other information is appreciated. Whatever you have to say I would like to know! Thanks!

Lawrence U has a very good reputation in the Upper Midwest, one of the very best LACs in Wisconsin along with Beloit, and roughly on a par with schools like St. Olaf in Minnesota and Kalamazoo College in Michigan, i.e., very good Midwestern LACs that aren’t on most CCers’ radar screens.

Most of its students come from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota, but it works very hard to attract students from other parts of the country and is reasonably successful at it. It’s located in Appleton, WI, a pleasant if somewhat bland medium-sized town about 40 minutes south of Green Bay, a somewhat larger but still smallish city known mostly for its famous professional football team. Appleton is about 2 hours from either Madison or Milwaukee, the largest and (in my book) by far the most interesting cities in the state.

In addition to being a good LAC, Lawrence has a very good music conservatory, which is what makes it a “university.”

Hard to say if it’s a good place for a vegan. Wisconsin is known for bratwurst and cheese as well as other dairy products, but I think high quality colleges generally try to accommodate the dietary needs of all their students, so I suspect there are vegan options. Just how tasty and nutritious and varied those options are, though, I couldn’t say.

If it’s not, then make it so.
Have a friendly conversation with the director of dining services about improving the menus.

They do serve a lot of food that they grow in a garden on campus. I’m guessing it is vegan friendly.

This school is very very vegan friendly. Along with having dietary options in the dining hall (Andrew Commons), several houses offer meal plans that any student can join where they cook dinners that are usually vegan/veg-concious (SLUG House, Co-Op)
