how does the house system work and does it help or not in getting to know everyone in the grade?

how is it for people entering as new juniors or seniors? and how many are there typically?

how is it for people entering as new juniors or seniors? and how many are there typically?

New juniors are assigned to a Circle (boys) or Crescent (girls) house. New seniors and PG’s are not other than the generic house for the entire class.

Sorry, my post was meant in regards to making friends and social life on campus.

how does the house system work and does it help or not in getting to know everyone in the grade?

freshmen have their own dorms (all girls are in one dorm, all boys are in another). however, sophomores and jrs are in dorms together. there are about 7 boys “circle” houses (3rd and 4th form houses) and 5 girls “crescent” houses (the girl version of circle basically). There’s a new one being built at the moment, another crescent house, and it will be ready by next year! seniors and pgs have their own dorms as well. it seperates us, but strengthens… through sports teams too, underclassmen get to know upperclassmen.

there are about 7 boys “circle” houses (3rd and 4th form houses)

When did they build a 7th? Cleve, Kennedy, Woodhull, Griswold, Hamill, Dickinson (There are some things you just never forget!)
I did know they were adding at least one more crescent house.

And in case anyone cares, the “circle” houses are sort around one side of a circle. And then they had to come up with a name for the girls houses when the school went coed in the 80s.

okay sorry ABOUT 7, i didnt want to count them all up…

Do you have seated meals and what are other traditions that you enjoy?

Do you have seated meals and what are other traditions that you enjoy?

We have some seated meals but theyre pretty rare (e.g. holiday sit-down). Lvilles completely filled with traditions. Examples:
- headmaster day (day when the headmaster calls no school for a random day the night before!)
- hill week (week of school spirit and games against hill, our rival. the whole school gets involved and the games are packeddd! theres special pep ralleys, dances, themed days, etc)
- quizbowl (lets get dorky! trivia contest, school-wide, teams by house)

How integrated are the social groups?

What are your thoughts on the house system?

Weeeee…
Anyone who’s considering or going to Lawrenceville next year, post on here somewhere!

How integrated are the social groups?
We’re honestly one big grade. Each form (grade) has around 180 students in it but honestly, it feels way less than that! A lot of people assume that because we’re such a big class we’re (and i quote) “unfriendly” but that is completely FALSE. Everyone knows everyone, and most are good friends. Social groups, like any other school, exist of course, but there’s no hate :)

What are your thoughts on the house system?
I think the house system is really well-built. Freshmen year, all the boys are grouped together as are all the girls. It allows them to bond together throughout the entire year and really get to know EVERYONE. Lville has grouped the student body into 3: freshmen, sophomores and juniors, then seniors. And it has purpose. Freshmen are new, and being grouped together allows them to integrate well. Sophomores and juniors are going through the same stage of highschool, where college stress is beginning but not at its fullest. The two forms are the core, the middle, of the school. Seniors are going through the same experience as well, as high school comes to an end. They repeat their freshmen year in a way, all grouped together once again and for the last time.

what do you like least about lville?

Is theatre big at Lawrenceville? If I recall correctly, the performing arts department chair is a former Walnut Hill teacher.
Also, do a lot of students join the Reach out the the Arts club?

do you always eat with the kids in your house or do you mix it up with other houses? Do people ever switch houses?

what is the drug and alcohol situation like at lville?

where did all the lawrentians go?

bump bump,

No, people don’t eat with their houses, except at advisee lunch. I know a couple people who switched houses, but it’s very rare and usually involves some extenuating circumstances.
