LCAD Questions about Admissions, Programs, Financial Aid, etc

Hi,

I’m a student at my local community college (WA State) with hopes of transferring either here or SJSU for 2-D animation, and I had a few questions about LCAD, and I apologize in advance if any of these questions are stupid or obvious.

What is your experience applying to LCAD as a homeschooled/transfer/both student?
Does the portfolio need to be digital at all or can it be just traditional art?
How rigorous is their animation program? Are the teachers currently in the industry?
Does the school offer any ways to foster industry connections while in school?
How is LCAD with financial aid? Are they stingy like SVA or more generous with more merit scholarships?
What about the environment for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students (I am Black and nonbinary is why I am asking)? Is it hostile, extremely lacking in diversity, or generally problematic?
Is off-campus housing in the Long Beach area really expensive?
What is the general atmosphere in the Long Beach area?

I think that’s all of my questions for now, I welcome information from anyone, regardless of if you are a parent of a student, a student, a former student, or prospective student, or not a student at all. Any information is helpful!

Hi I can’t help you with most of your questions. There is one important thing though - LCAD is in Laguna Beach, not Long Beach and they are two very different places.

Cal State Long Beach actually has a really well regarded art program that is way less expensive once you’re a CA resident.

I appear to be an idiot, I only just caught that mistake, but in any case thank you for that information about Cal State Long Beach.
