I know a girl who is like upper class but not RIDICULOUSLY rich, just like a typical junior prep girl from the boston suburbs. She went to Rosey and LOVES it. From her pics on fb I think that it really looks like a good place to be, yes there’s skiing, but at schools like deerfield, SPS, the socials/dances are pretty comparable

On the other hand, I know a girl, born in Paris, who went to Le Rosey, but her parents pulled her out of it to come to my school, junior boarding, because she wasn’t being academically challenged enough and because she was spending so much money…

From my experience, they spend a lot of money, but it’s no different than the boarding schools in the US with trips every weekend to newbury, natick, chestnut hill…

well, it seems like a lot of this comments are coming from people that you know that went there. Let me tell you, I was at Le Rosey for over 5 years… In a boarding school like rosey, at the age of 12 if academics would be the major concern kids would hate the school and therefore a lot of activities are organised, not only skiing but there is also a lot more: horsebackriding (they have their own stables), karting, sailing (school facilities by the lake), excursions on the weekends… and a lot more.
Of course as you reach the final years, academics become priority number 1, if your academic results are good then you will be allowed to participate in all of the fun stuff however if they are not then they will make sure you focus on academics.

I don’t think most people except for the wealthy are willling to 100,000++ for their child’s education for ONE year when they can pay that much for a 4 year university.

it is possibly the best boarding school in the world
it is $100,000 a year so think of the kinds of kids who can afford that and their attitueds
yes that is not true for everyone but i know in nyc it is true which is where many of those kids are from

From my knowledge of Le Rosey, it’s just one of those rich-kid party schools (like Eton). It cannot in any way match the education of any HADES/HADES quality school.

I know a few people who went to Rosey. All have only great things to say about the school. I also know alot of kids in HADES. Some complain about being in the middle of nowhere on weekends, poor dorm conditions and bad food. Rosey kids seem to be overall happy. Hard to please a spoiled rich kid but they do. Rosey is a great school for language and science. Liberal arts and sports teams are better at HADES.

I think the sciences are just as strong, if not stronger at HADES… le Rosey isn’t as academic as HADES or as rigorous (just from what I’ve heard) so obviously they’d be happier, especially since they get to live in a freaking SKI RESORT for 3 months!

I know a ski resort in the winter, no wonder they have a lot of great things to say…most of those kids probably have alot of moolah too;I guess that would explain the ski resort.

So, we’ve stated that the skiing is great and a main reason to send your kids there, the academics are debatably comparable and it is predominantly a school for wealthy white students. One question I have is this- Is the college placement comparable or does HADES just blow Rosey out of the water in that area?

College placement may be as good as HADES considering Oxford is their Harvard and many get into top European schools as well as the Iveys. Don`t forget Rosey is tough to get into. Their application requires an exam much harder then the ssat. In order to graduate one must be fluent in at least two laguages. Not all white rich kids go there; I know a kid from the projects who got a full ride. No private jet, never been on skies, but had a very high IQ.

College placement at Le Rosey is nowhere near that of HADES schools, even taking into account Le Rosey’s British university acceptances. Nor is their IB program all that fantastic. My old school, also for rich white kids who weren’t often incredibly academically motivated (I was the exception as a non-tuition-paying faculty child) gets better results on the IB and shares uncannily similar college matriculations.

TomTheCat, your old school was also ‘for rich white kids’? What in the world are you talking about? You seem to have conveniently forgotten a sizeable contingent of boarders from China, Korea, Japan, HK etc. Perhaps you didn’t interact much with them but they make up a valid sector of your old school population.

^ Facebook, the most magical place on Earth

@ muf123: On le Rosey’s website, it has like 2 sentences on scholarships. Apparently you can get a 5k scholarship, but out of the basic 80k tuition, how much of a difference is that really going to make? le Rosey is nowhere near as diverse as HADES, and if you checked the link that TomTheCat posted, their IB scores are nothing to write home about either.

Samuck, okay, I choose to revise my previous statement: what I meant is rich kids from around the world who were often not incredibly academically motivated. Do pardon my mistake

Eton is a very different sort of a place than Le Rosey. Similar only in that the majority of students come from a certain class, Eton is single sex, and rigorous academically and physically.
