Hello,
I wanted to ask if anyone here previously attended or is currently attending Le Rosey and if they can explain how hard was it to get in?
I know several kids and family members who are currently at Le Rosey or are Le Rosey alumni, I personally did not apply to the school but have been on both campuses several times and tend to know a good amount about the school. When it comes to getting accepted to the school, it really depends on what country you are from, whether you need financial aid (which le rosey does not offer a lot of), and whether you (or your family) are notable or have done notable things. My father went to Le Rosey and I often get a lot of questions about the school and its acceptance rate since it seems to be a closely guarded secret. If you ask Le Rosey admissions, they will say the acceptance rate is about 1 in 4…however, this is EXTREMELY misleading. First off, the school uses a quota system which caps the number of students from each country, thus applicants from larger countries such as the US and China have a lot more competition within their applicant pool than individuals from smaller countries who are also applying. Additionally, the school tends to be very closed off from the “average” person–or even “average” wealthy person. Don’t get me wrong, your not surrounded by MP’s children and Royals (but there are several of them), rather a lot of the students either have very strong ties to the school, their nation’s government, or they are from wealthy families that can fuel the school’s endowment. In my family’s case they had very strong ties with the previous Iranian government under the Shah and the CIA and the US state Dept, thus you would see the upper echelon of middle eastern and European politics and wealth poured into schools like Le Rosey, from what I have seen of the school today that remains true, but not to the extremes of the 70s and 80s. I wouldn’t say getting into le rosey is impossible, but it relies very heavily on “who you know” and “who your family is” rather than “who you are as an individual”. Whether this is a good thing or bad thing I’ll leave for you to decide. I encourage you to look at schools other than just Le Rosey as there are numerous fine academic colleges/boarding schools in the UK, other parts of Switzerland, Germany, France, and the US.
@nadalt Have you also looked at Tasis?
Hello @CC4life , thank you so much for your reply it was extremely helpful.
I knew about the nationality quota which actually played in my favor since I am Moroccan and the school only has four so far all taking the French bac.
I won’t be asking for financial aid either which I thought would play in my favor too.
My family is capable of affording it however what worries me the most is the family relations you just explained since I don’t think my family can benefit the school in ways you just explained and that scared me a lot. Do you think that If my family can’t benefit them they won’t let me in?
@Happytimes2001 Yes I looked at Tasis and several others in Switzerland thank you
@Nadalt in terms of your family relations in regards to the school, I wouldn’t say it’s a must, but it definitely helps throughout the admissions process both for Le Rosey and for future University study. If your family isn’t a major draw for the school, you will have to compensate with another “hook”–whether that be athletic ability, academic aptitude, special/rare extracurriculars, etc. any of these will make you stand out from the applicant pool and give Le Rosey a stronger reason to admit you.
@CC4life in terms of what can compensate my family s relations, I am trilingual (English, Arabic, French) and am a beginner concerning Spanish. I have been homeschooled for two years (in which I did really well) which I’m scared would be a downgrade from the other kids applying. I ve done many internships and extra curriculars, I play an instrument and always represented my school s team as a goalie for soccer, I also play tennis and I sing individually or with the choir. However, I still don’t know if that is enough for a school like that?
Thank you so much for your replies: they are extremely helpful!
@Nadalt You do realize most kids at Swiss schools are multi-lingual right? Many speak the four or five “common” languages: English, French, German, Italian(Romansch) and their own. Some speak more. It’s rare for someone at this type of school to speak two or less fluently. I think kids there will have come from a vast variety of educational background (many with several) and I’m not sure that being home schooled is the toughest. Not trying to be critical but more realistic. You should go into applying to any school with confidence but thinking that 3 languages is rare in Switzerland is misguided.
Where ever you go, I hope that you find a good fit for you. That’s what’s really important.
This quote seems unclear, so to clarify, Italian and Romansch are separate languages, although both are Romance languages. Romansch is not an Italian dialect.
But the point that being multilingual brings little to the table is accurate.
Yes that’s right. Meant to imply Swiss might often speak Italian OR Romansch as one of their languages depending on where they are raised.
cant speak on the topic of their academic rigor but im sure its decent. that being said, perhaps not a popular opinion, its reputation does tend to be a school for “dumb rich kids”. tuiton is 130 k usd last i checked.
if you have the stats and want to go to a top secondary school that excels in all facets (academic, sports, arts, uni placement, brand/prestige/rep) id focus on hotchkiss, andover, deerfield, exeter, st pauls, and choate. (also roxbury latin but u need to be a resident of the boston area… no dorms).
Or look into United World Colleges (UWC) if you want a more international experience…
maybe eton ??
Institut Le Rosey — Ugly Truth of Le Rosey, Indian Student bullied in School
Institut Le Rosey is the most expensive boarding school in the world. Indian billionaire daughter bullied in Le Rosey and school management is failure to manage the situation. Institut Le Rosey claims to offer a rounded, multicultural ‘school for life’ to a tight network of students but its failure on all commitments.
Radhika and Pankaj claim that their daughter seems to suffer from insomnia and depression for quite sometime. It is exceptionally uncanny to see how her very own classmates can do such a thing. Rosey is no small institute. It is where most of the rich and opulent people in society send their children.
According to Pankaj Oswal, the liberty given to the rich kids has led to his daughters’ labefaction. His wife, Radhika, was seen addressing the press with a heavy heart stating how the institution failed to stand out to its own moto. She also told the media how the philosophies, integrity and the prestige of the institution were made a mockery of by the current management.
