Leadership Conference Letter?

hi i received a letter congratulating me for getting invited to the congressional student leadership conference, because of my academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership potential. i dont know how they know about me. is this a big deal?

i got one too...i think they find out from the school guidance counselors and such

Woo, aren't you a senior? I thought only juniors and sophomores got those invitations.

o im a junior lol. well anyways. is it considered an honor to get invited? lol jus wondering.......

They usually do it by PSAT scores

When I got one of these letters, I thought it was a big deal too. I know better now:)

I've gotten about 10 inviations from different organizations, and I've learned that they're not impressive in terms of college resumes. However, most people agree that they are great learning experinces and good for making new frinds.

yeah i went to one last year...big joke lol...i hated it. and its not real impressive to colleges. it cant be based on psat scores b/c i never took the psat or sat. so who knows.

Yeah, I got one today. If it is by PSAT scores then I don't know how I got in because my scores were extremely bad. I asked my counselors about these organizations, and she said they aren't high achievements, and colleges don't look at them much. She said most of them just want to take your money.

^ I concur with the notion that they want to take your money

that's so cute...i love how they do such a good job making it look official, but i've gotten so many of those from other places that they become so obnoxious.

Here's a general rule of thumb: you should never have to pay money to obtain an academic "honor." These "leadership conferences" are a good example of a semi-scam, in that sense. Another good example is "Who's Who in America's High Schools" (see following link: http://beach.logicrealms.com/scamsaid.htm )
