Leadership in the Business World

<p>when did you apply..I never got a fin aid letter?</p>

<p>I recieved an email that my whole app was complete till feb 20. The Fin Aid app I received it today... however, I asked them earlier when will I received it. That's probably why they sent is today...
the good news is im still considered</p>

<p>what are your stats? i think they forgot to send it to me.</p>

<p>Hey, does receiving the financial aid thing mean that you may be accepted? I seriously doubt it...but I got mine today. Um, if you really care about stats:
SAT: 2340, PSAT: 233, SAT II Chem- 780, SAT Math IIC: 800
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, something like 4.474 weighted
probably two great recs, lots of leadership, internships, varsity sports, generally well-rounded</p>

<p>Has anyone gotten their acceptance yet? I think I sent my stuff in relatively late- last week - compared to everyone else.</p>

<p>doubt it....</p>

<p>From staff at LBW:</p>

<p>I would advise you not to trust the rumors of CollegeConfidential. I
visited that site not too long ago, when I was a junior in high school--
and now being on the other side of the ball I can tell you that many of
the things said on those boards are very unsubstantiated.</p>

<p>Kind regards,
Jason</p>

<p>this was an answer to if SAT and GPA is all they care about and other CC stuff</p>

<p>you kids are not human....how do you manage to wreck everything you do?</p>

<p>I am human..:)...I am gangsta</p>

<p>Insane8914, I did M&TSI last summer, it was the first year M&T hosted the program. I can assure you the program is well worth it. There's acutally a broshure if you email the staff and ask for one. Basically, the program has a lot of field trips with high-tech firms and biotech companies. It also offers guest lectures, labs, and business case write-ups. The main project we did was developing a product and making a model and marketing plan for it. Of course, the product has to be tech based. Every night and weekend is pretty much packed with group activities and it is overall an exceptional experience. I hope that helps!</p>

<p>Did anyone get accepted yet?</p>

<p>warren you can always email the directors.</p>

<p>can anyone tell me what are W2 forms? and where may it get them!</p>

<p>Your parents can obtain them from their employers. It bassicly says their income and how much tax was with held from them. hope that helps</p>

<p>anyone else get in or rejected?</p>

<p>I don't know if my english isn't good enough or it is actually confusing, but when asking about whether the admissions to LBW were need-blind, I received this answer:</p>

<p>"As for your question, whether or not a student requested financial aid is not taken into consideration when we review applicants." That's all!</p>

<p>I really don't wanna email them again telling them I didn't understand!</p>

<p>How do you interpret the answer?</p>

<p>Basically, they're saying it's need-blind. For example, if you asked for say $1000 vs. no money, it's not going to make a difference because they don't look at it when reviewing applicants.</p>

<p>thanks! (just to write at least 10 characters)</p>

<p>according to previous post about LBW..all you other guys will probably get your letters in mid-march around spring break.</p>

<p>To everyone that is interested in or has heard back from “Leadership in the Business World”:</p>

<pre><code>My name is Brian Hendricks and as some of you may know I attended LBW last year. I absolutely loved it and I can say it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Let me start by saying that if you’re simply interested in the LBW simply because you’ve heard that it may help your chances with getting into Wharton, you're applying for the wrong reason– because that rumor is simply a rumor. Naturally, a handful of people from LBW will get into Wharton because at least 95% of the kids at the program are seriously considering applying.

LBW is an amazing opportunity to get to know the University of Pennsylvania and the experience provides plenty of material for college essays, but there is so much more to get out of LBW then the prospect of it helping your chances getting into U-Penn.

I will be the first to admit that I got rejected from Wharton; yet, if I hadn’t gone to LBW, I can honestly say my life would be a little different than it is today – that’s how much LBW impacted me.

On to the real message I want to say. I have received multiple private messages from people on this forum and have read this entire thread, and there are a large number of rumors surrounding LBW and its admissions – one of which I hopefully just dispelled. First off, academic achievement is most certainly not the only basis for which you’re admitted at LBW. I didn’t have a stellar academic record and my PSAT’s weren’t great (less than 200 for those that care).

What makes the kids at LBW so amazing is that every single person brings something different to the table. At some point, we all discussed what we felt made us unique, and nobody mentioned anything regarding to academics – people had community service projects, started their own companies, were nationally ranked debate champions, etc. The groups that are formed in LBW are special because your group is full of people of different talents that come together to each do a different task. My point is that if you are someone who can bring something unique to the table, you’ll be a strong candidate anywhere, including LBW.

After talking to LBW’s head RTA this summer, Jason Toff, about this thread, I just want to let everyone know that sending letters and emails about your application – whether its been looked at, why you haven’t been accepted, etc – will NOT help your application. From my experience at LBW, I can say that I have the utmost respect for the people that select LBW’s participants, and they have a very good understanding of the people who are a good fit for the program. They do not a constant reminder explaining to them why you should be admitted.

Any relevant questions can usually be answered from the website. It’s very informative, and to be honest, the application is much easier than it was last year, so there shouldn’t be too many questions about it. However, I’ll give you a quick run-down of the facts.

<ol>
<li> The application is need-blind</li>
<li> The number of acceptances is a capped number and has no relation to the number of applicants</li>
<li> If you’re rejected, it’s final. Not everyone makes it. Don’t pester anyone about it.</li>
<li> Acceptance to UPenn has no correlation or relationship to LBW or any summer program at Penn for that matter. </li>
</ol>

<p>I’ll be happy to answer any questions as long as they pertain to the LBW program itself and not admissions.</p>

<p>brhchs06, I have a some questions....What did you do there exactly? Is it basic business stuff or do they teach more advanced stuff in the classes? what kind of kids were on the program? do the VCs use any of the business plans made by the kids? Thanks a lot</p>
