Pros/Cons to living in a learning community vs a regular style dorm

Pros:
- Smaller community within large campus
- meet people with similar interests
- some have special study groups that are taught by upperclassmen that have taken the class
- central campus housing (biggest pro)
- some offer special advising
-cool experiences

cons:
- they’re all substance free (really this just means that the repercussions for getting in caught are harsher but its not that big of a deal, its really hard to get kicked out of the)
dorms) - time commitment (Varies by MLC but its usually enjoyable because you’re with your friends from the hall

Really joining a community was the best decision I made in my college process, I got a great group of friends who shared similar interests, got great experience and not to mention living on central is a HUGE advantage. The time commitment varies but its no where near overwhelming, you still have plenty of time to be involved in many other clubs/sports/organizations without the MLC interfering.

Thank you a lot. Which mlc were you in?

I was in MRC (the research one). Probably the biggest time commitment because you do research but if you’re already considering UROP its basically the same requirements.
