Learning Communities, Theme Housing, and Martha Cook

I’m going to be a freshman next year at the University of Michigan, and I’m trying to figure out what to do for housing. Right now, I’m looking at applying to the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) learning community and the Sustainable Living Experience (SLE) theme community, as well as potentially Martha Cook.

Can anyone tell me what these places are like and how hard they are to get in to? I’ve heard from some people that Martha Cook can be pretty judgy, but I don’t really know anything about the other two.

I only know about WISE. Overall, it is a great program and is also very close with MRC (now called MRADS). It is also an opportunity to be in a all-female environment focused on STEM, but guys are still accessible if you want since MRADS is co-ed and there are usually a few traditional non-MLC students in MoJo. MoJo is also considered one of the most desirable dorms in one of the most desirable locations.

Is Martha Cook now open to freshmen?

Yeah, apparently a lot of the students living there are freshmen now.
