My son thinks he wants to major in business but not sure. He also has a minor learning disability of attention disorder. I had hoped he would get into Temple or West Chester but did not. Of the remaining PA Public colleges, does anyone have an opinion on what might be the next best? Or which might be a better place to start then try to transfer later. He also got into High Point but doesn’t want to go that far or that expensive. I am torn because I love High Point’s President and they have an excellent program for learning disabilities called “Learning Excellence.” Not sure if PA public schools have such a program.

This is what I found for Millersville, the other PASSHE schools might have similar programs.
Where else did he get in?
Rejected from Temple, West Chester, UDel, UNC Wilmington. Accepted High Point, Millersville and Kutztown. He is also considering a Gap year but I would rather he not.
I just found something called TRiO at Kutztown. Not sure if it is anything like High Point. HPU Learning excellence has one on one, mandatory study groups, executive function coach etc. We visit this week. I will find out then.
I would try to re-visit your options and make an appointment to meet with someone in the Office of Disability Services at each school. My S has learning issues and we did this at his top choices and it proved to be worthwhile to meet the people, see the facilities each school offered.
From someone that has some experience…if he is asking for a gap year, I would advise you to listen closely. Can he defer his acceptance until Fall 2017? That way he would have somewhere to go, but also the opportunity for that gap year. Did you try IUP? they are a state system campus with a large education faculty and I believe they have some focused learning disability/other disability support…
Excellent advice! Thanks to all.
