Least competitive major to get into from out of state?

Hi. Im a high school senior and I live in NY and I am interested in Psychology. I have a 30 on ACT and 89.5 GPA. What can I do to increase my chances of getting into UT??? I have no problem switching my major for admittance. What is the easiest major there that I can apply to?? P

Why would you apply for a major you don’t want? If you can’t switch to psych later are you really willing to change your career just to attend a particular school?

What’s wrong with the SUNYs? We have some great schools here and they’ll be less expensive than OOS costs at a Texas public university.

Yes, I don’t think it’s wise for you to apply to UT and I’m a rabid Longhorn fan. It’s too expensive and doesn’t make sense for you.

Why UT? It’s an excellent college, but psychology at SUNY is good, and UT isn’t worth $30,000 a year more. If you are looking for “highly ranked colleges”, UMN is as good as UT and $14,000 a year cheaper, and it’s easier for OOS applicants to be accepted.

What is your 4 scale GPA? You need to transform all of your grades to 4 point scale and then recalculate the GPA.

Pretty much a B average (high or mid depends on whether 90 is an A or 93 is.

Just asking how to improve chances hints you don’t have an idea. And you should have explored and seen that for OOS, the 75th percentile for ACT is 34. The 30 puts you at the top of the 25th percentile.

It’s holistic. If you don’t have a background (academic and ECs) in the major you note, how do you prove your strengths?
