Leaving U.S. Naval Academy to NROTC?

Ok, odd question for some but not for me.

I want to know if you know of or hear of, seen...anything...about transferring from USNA (in good standing) to NROTC (after plebe year is through). This thread will get super, super long if there are tons of why questions as I know people are wondering and back and forth arguing for or against each.

I'm just wondering if anybody on here knows of scholarship opportunities, what NROTC would think, favorable? or no? I know people transfer into NROTC their sophomore year and they have to do the accelerated program over the summer to catch up, but since coming for USNA, would you have to do that?

Thank you much in advance

You should call the ROTC reps at a few colleges and ask them. I would think that the military science courses you took would transfer.

At one time it would have been relatively easy to get a ROTC position after leaving an academy. You will have to check with ROTC reps to find out what the rules and competition are like now. I will tell you that 30 years ago my wife was told that she had to reaccomplish basic training if she wanted to go ROTC - this despite having taken BCT as an incoming freshman at USAFA and giving BCT as a rising Junior. That’s why she didn’t go ROTC.

Another consideration is the reason for departing the Naval Academy. The ROTC opportunities will likely depend on the recommendation coming out of the Academy. The leadership at the Naval Academy won’t take the idea of anyone quitting lightly and may make recommendations for future service based on the underlying reason for leaving.

Thank you for the advice

Do any of you know of people who have done this before?
