Some of you know that I am a sophomore currently at NCSU and am reapplying to USNA (I am a previous candidate from c/o 2009). If I do not achieve acceptance this time, I plan to do NROTC here at state. My question is simple. If I complete the NROTC application online via the official NROTC website for this coming school year (2007-2008; I would be on the two year plan), would that jeopardize my application to Annapolis in ANY way?

Also, if I do not get into Annapolis, I plan to double major here at state and will be here for an additional 3 years, not 2. If USNA is not to be, I would prefer to participate in NROTC for 3 years instead of waiting another year and doing it for 2. Does anyone have any advice for that possible situation? Should I wait a year or go ahead and apply now? Is it possible to do ROTC for 3 years? I know of many who do it for 4 or 2, but not 3 years.

Thanks a lot! And please let me know if some of this doesnt make sense. I know my situation is somewhat different than most.

I can't reply to all of your questions, but applying to ROTC is actually encouraged by the Academies, not frowned upon. They know how competitive it is to get in and want you to have a viable backup plan. They do discourage people who have the 'Academy or nothing' attitude.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine no matter what you end up doing.

mightyrooster825......My S is a soph. in the NROTC unit at NCSU! He is on a 4 year scholarship. There are those in the unit doing what is called the College program (which means which means they didn't get a scholarship before starting school). I think you can apply for a 3year NROTC scholarship and I am certain that you can apply for a scholarship after doing the college program for one semester. Definitely go to the NROTC office in Reynolds and talk to them about it.

my brother applied for an AROTC scholorship right after his first semester in college. he, too, was enrolled in the college program for a semester. i think it was the 3.5 year scholorship that he got.

my nrotc interviewer/commander told me that they offer alot of different scholorships. he said it ranges from 4 year shcolorships to 2 years. i'm not entirely sure. gonna have to look that up.
