how do u know which one to choose from physics for example? the lecture, discussion, or lab?

you need all of them…the lecture and the discussion usually match up (look at the numbers)

like what’s the difference between:
PHYSICS 7A P 001 LEC
PHYSICS 7A S 101 DIS
PHYSICS 7A S 101 LAB
PHYSICS 7A S 102 DIS

and the P and the S next to each one.

(ii) what are the benefits of taking honors classes like Phyiscs H7A?

(i) PHYSICS 7A P 001 LEC - Your professor talks to you and a couple hundred other people about physics for 3 hours per week.

PHYSICS 7A S 101 DIS - Your GSI goes over the material the professor talks about and helps you and 20 or so other people do problem sets for 2 hours (sometimes 4) hours per week.

PHYSICS 7A S 101 LAB - Your GSI leads you and the same 20 or so other people in your discussion through experiments that demonstrate physical principles for 2 hours per week (on the 7 or so weeks you have lab).

PHYSICS 7A S 102 DIS -Same thing as Physics 7A for the same lecture but with a different GSI and must be taken along with Physics 7A S 102 LAB.

I imagine P and S stand for primary and secondary since you pick the lecture you want to attend and then you pick the discussions and labs listed under that lecture (if the lecture is 001 then the discussion and lab numbers will begin with 1). 101 DIS and 101 LAB are a set that you must sign up for simultaneously. Basically if a lab and a discussion have the same number (ex. 101, 102, etc.) then they must be signed up for simultaneously.

(ii) Harder homework problems and midterms, staying in Le Conte until 3 AM, realizing how minute your knowledge of physics is, and looks good if you plan on becoming a physics major of some sort. Pretty hard core class, but the normal physics 7A is already hard enough.

not sure what p or s stands for. but basically you have to take the lecture, and then see how the dis and lab is both 101: that means if you pick that discussion, you’ll gonna have to pick that lab. (so you can’t pick dis 102 with lab 101…telebears wouldn’t even let you anyway iirc)

as for honors, i don’t know how real/factual this is, but i hear that some honors courses aren’t really worth it and perhaps not the best for a freshman. and i think the class size may be smaller though, but i’m probably wrong…dunno

what dill said. lol i was still writing this as she posted =D

so basically when i pick physics 7A I have to also choose a dis and a lab that start with the same number as the lec class.

you pick lecture, then you pick discussion. TeleBEARS automatically puts in the corresponding lab.

thanks guys!

a little off topic but because i’m taking the ap calc bc exam this may and won’t know my score until the summer, should i sign up for math 1b or just assume that my ap credits will cover for it.
i plan to take a math during the summer and not sure which to sign up for, majoring in engineering too.

How do you feel about math and how sure are you that you got a 5?

so if i’m confident that i got a 5 after taking the test, then i should look towards taking math 53 or 54 instead of 1B again right?

Yes, but even if just manage to pass you can still take 53 or 54, but you may want to think about how it could affect your grade in 53 or 54.
