Well I had fun for my one semester...
It's not about KTRU programming or ratings, it's about selling such a power broadcasting asset to of all people those panthers

KTRU will still exist. And if they play their cards right will do just fine. Hopefully they can switch to a low power broadcast on a different band or frequency

Not a possibility as per FCC regs. Transmitting on a different frequency would interfere with other stations and would not be allowed.
I agree that KTRU programing will not allow for a large listening base, so why not edit the programming a little? The motive behind the purchase on the U of H end is to create/run Houston’s classical music station. That prestige belongs to Rice!

If this falls through, we will be the only top 25 U without a real radio broadcast. (according to the article)

I dont see KTRU changing their broadcast. The last time there was external pressure to broadcast athletics games, all hell broke loose.

Would the AM band be unavailable to purchase?

Not sure, and good point. Just noticed you had already started a thread on this too so sorry for the repost!

yeah. Im the new Persona Non Grata apparently. I seem to be one of the few who thinks this a good idea.

Rather than complain about the move, maybe try to make something better happen? 50,000 Watts is as ridiculous as the MASSIVE stadium at Rice. Most people are like ***? when they see it

Sure all true. Just wish KTRU would bend a little on their programing. The sale of such a powerful asset (rights to broadcast in a major media market) might have been avoided if they were more flexible to popularize a bit

yeah, but that goes against the ‘eclectic’-ness or whatever.

Unfortunately, the trend now is to confuse unique with run-of-the-mill. If no one listens, thats because it’s unique.

But yea, ultimately the admin has the right sell whatever they see fit (as long as it’s not the acatramp or glider!)

lol and ouch on that article. I would post that on the KTRU list-serve but I might get shot. You have to learn to adapt or otherwise become obsolete. the sad truth of life

I have posted. [BURN DOWN RICE!: Selling KTRU violates the V2C | Burn Down Blog](<a href=“Private Site”>Private Site)

seems that the “liberal” and “broad-minded” KTRU fans hate dissenting opinions.

The one thing I would say is that timing of this was not the greatest.

oh man I would watch your back!
“If 90% of KTRU’s listeners left, you would have about 4 people listening. If 100% stayed, it makes no difference.”

exaggerated a little. Just to make a point. just a tiny bit :D

Where do you get your cane sugar coke btw? Fiesta?

sometimes. some HEB’s carry them or if I am really desperate Central Market. Although with the amount they charge you, I may as well buy the bottling facility in Mexico
