Is it really legitimate that a girl who has slacked off all through high school is accepted cornell ED, only because she has a double legacy, while another girl with excellent, excellent stats (far better than those of the aforementioned acceptee) is rejected?

another rant: many of my underrepresented friends were accepted with a full scholarships to cornell. what's left of us middle-class families with average income? We are too poor to afford tuitions, and too rich to be awarded scholarships. this is completely unjust.

Hey I have deceased legacy and wrote about it in my essays, 1380, 96/748 and got deferred from engineering. Ivy league admissions is a crap shoot. Depends on who reads your app.

I'm a double legacy, but I was also qualified...(1450 and 4.85w gpa, 2/360). Hearing things like that Calmative make me sick...honestly, almost as if all that work was for nothing...

Anyway, I know people where were lagacies, and even double legacies and didn't get even...even when somewhat qualified...so you never know...

i agree that legacies shouldn't have that much of an effect, but since I do have two grandparents that attended cornell for graduate school, will that help me any?

I don't think legacy in itself helps, but a lot of legacy applicants have the advantage of being raised in an education-focused environment, thereby succeeding in school and such. The legacy applicant pool might be slightly higher than the average. Also, legacy applicants may have more inside knowledge of the school so they are able to display interest better on the application.

i personally agree both legacy status and affirmative action are so unjust!!! I mean just because you are a certain race or come from a certain state does not you deserve special preference. My teacher ( who sat on admission for a very prominent school) said that if you were from new jersey (where i am from...using this as an example) you got points taken off your app!! Is that fair???

I understand that the ED dicisions can be hard to understand and disappointing. However presuming the reasons for acceptences, deferrals, or rejections without being told by a Cornell Adcom person is most likely inaccurate and (in my opinion) disrespectful and self-defeating. Without the context of the full view of the admissions committee a lot of the decisions look inconsistant ... but from the view of the school building a community the decisions make more sense ... and unfortunatley this is not a view any of us can see.

Passaic/Bergen County area.. how about you? I've definitely heard of West Windsor Plainsboro because they compete at Model UN competitions. You guys are awesome!

Ah this time I definitely remember! Haha There were a bunch of people from the Navajo tribe and us, right? You're applying to the Hotel School?? Seriously, message me if you need help with anything. It would be so great to have a fellow Jersey friend up at Cornell!
