Anyone have any insights on whether or not being an NU legacy (in my case a double legacy) helps in the admissions process?

Thanks.

I believe they consider it but it wont really make that much of a difference.
Check out their common data set under Alumni/ae relation:

2 of my grandparents attended Northwestern, as well as an uncle and 2 cousins. I was able to talk about that on my “why northwestern” essay. I think it could help a little bit because its a part of the overall package

I am an NU alum, married to another NU alum. My S may be considering NU (still up in the air). I emailed to ask about the legacy policy (did it count in just ED or both ED / RD … did double legacy count more than single …) and this was the response I got:

Dear XXXXXX,

There’s isn’t an official policy statement in regard to applicants who have a legacy connection. However, the Committee on Admission does take this into consideration when the applicant has parents, siblings or grandparents who have received their degree from Northwestern. While we will note a legacy tie in the review of a student’s application, students are given consideration for admission based on their all of their credentials and not solely on their relationship to Northwestern alumni. There is no difference in how this is considered based on the application plan the student chooses and the same is true regarding the number of alumni ties. We defer very few Early Decision students and for those that we do, it has nothing to do with their legacy tie. The final decision for any applicant (not just legacies) is made by the Committee on Admission.

Sincerely,
