Legacy Letter

Hey guys-- did anyone here get the legacy letter? If so, was it for a sibling?

yes, but i got it for a parent

Ok. I’m just wondering if sibling legacy counts at all at Yale…

yeah I got it for a parent. Hopin it counts towards something.

Yep, it was directed towards a parent, and we got two–one for my twin bro, one for me.

Man, that’s kind of cool/weird - having a twin apply to the same place  How will you guys check your decisions? I’m thinking it would be totally awkward if one of you gets in and the other one doesn’t… :(

^ There was actually an article in the YDN about twins at Yale. The admissions office almost always tries to give the same decision to both twins, except in cases where their academic and extracurricular profiles are at opposite ends of the strong-weak spectrum.

:) good article!!

demiitasse–I forgot/didn’t know you’re legacy! cooool!

When did these get sent out/what do they say?

It basically says that they recognize the fact that you are a “legacy” applicant and while the acceptance rate for legacies is higher (25% I think it said), it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a higher chance. Students whose parents are Yale grads tend to have a greater emphasis on education and are therefore more competitive applicants. I think they’re also hand-signed by the dean of admissions?

I got mine the day before Thanksgiving. You can imagine how much my heart was racing when I saw a letter from the Dean of Admissions of Yale University in my mailbox.
