The supplement says that "in addition to the parents and siblings listed in common app, list grandparents who have attended". One problem, the common app only has a space for sibling's undergrad. How does my son list his brother who is in grad school at W&M and is there any way to show the one cousin that went undergrad and the two uncles who went grad school all at W&M? Or does it matter since his dad and I are both alums?

My guess is that only siblings, parents and grandparents are considered legacy. That is why it is worded that way. Admissions-wise, I doubt having a cousin or uncle that attended the College makes an iota of difference. If the family involvement is a big part of your child’s decision to attend, then that discussion is probably more appropriate for the interview.

Legacy at W&M is defined as having a parent attend W&M. Grandparents, siblings and other relatives do not constitute a legacy. We do take note of grandparents and siblings who have attended W&M but they do not rise to the level of legacy. For the sibling who attend W&M grad school, just listed that and the advanced degree on the app rather than the undergraduate degree.

Thanks so much- that is what we were leaning towards since my younger son is not applying to the undergrad that the older son went to but just weren’t sure if that was ok since it says undergrad institute (yet shows JD as one of the degree options). The common app can be confusing!
