Does legacy or family as professors have any influence for an applicant?

I’m a legacy as well.
I can’t say being one will ever hurt you, but it definitely works in your favor for ED. Looking at the stats of some people that were rejected RD, there’s no way even that “hook” could have helped me there.
And I had my Counselor put in a small mention of my legacy status in her rec, just to show that I was proud of being one and I wanted to continue it.

Alum here, married to another alum, son is a rising soph at NU. I absolutely say that if you have a legacy card to play, play it in ED or don’t bother.

This is generally for most top schools, if you’re a legacy, it will only help you if you apply ED, and carry little to no weight in RD. I assume their mentality is that you really want to go their, and your family as a whole will donate more.
