Does having a parent who attended a university for his/her graduate degree equate to a legacy (in terms of college apps)?

Depends on which school it is. I know that Harvard only considers legacy from the undergrad program. I think most do though, check with the school website, though I'd imagine it would count for a little less.

Lol I'm a Hispanic Legacy from Yale, and I was deferred... :)

Everyone said I was a sure bet... I told them I wasn't! :D

It depends on how strong your legacy is. My dad is heavily involved in recruiting from Ross School of Business at Michigan and is one of the most sucessful graduates from the business school. Because of this, i am getting letters of recomendation from board member, etc. That along with the highish grades i get will easily get me in there. My mom went to Georgetown on the other hand. She did okay there, but the legacy there really wont help me because she doesn't have any contacts there and didn't do much after graduating.

MattEisn, that's an interesting point you bring up-- I always thought that as long as you're legacy, it'll help, and your parents' involvement in alumni associations, etc, simply helped you more.
