I heard recently that children of UVa alumni are treated as in-state for admissions purposes. Is that correct? Is there a disparity between in-state and OOS admissions stats such that being treated as in-state makes a big difference?

search the forum on this; we (and Dean J in particular) have covered legacy quite a bit.

Here’s one thread:

In essence, you are not treated as an instate student. However, the admissions rate for OOS legacies is comparable to in state students; the acceptance rate for the legacy pool is closer to instate acceptance rates than OOS. But, you’re still considered an OOS student and pay OOS tuition/fees.

Thank you! That’s exactly the information I was looking for.
