Legacy?

I know that parents count as legacy for colleges...who else does?

I think aunts and uncles do, but I need to know if first cousins count at all. that might make a difference in narrowing down colleges

At most, parents and sometimes grandparents.

My understanding is that legacy, unless accompanied by large donation, doesn’t count for much at top schools. Friend told me that as her husband attended Grinnell, her daughter was guaranteed admission. Don’t know if true, would be surprised if so.

my biggest question is with Cornell. I had a cousin who went there and did very well and was wondering if I could mention that at all in my app and if it made any difference.

No, cousin won’t help.

As for Grinnell, they, like every school, do not guarantee legacy admission. It’s likely there with stats above their average, but never guaranteed.

Legacy is a major hook at most schools. Even at the ivies it more than doubles the chances. Yet you almost always need at minimum median stats for highly selective schools and the vast majority of legacies (over 70% at ivies) are still rejected.
