Legal Residency

what's make me qualify for state residency? I've only lived in my current state for 2 years and have lived out of state all my life. My parents are foreigners while I'm a citizen. they dont pay taxes in US as my father works outside of US.

I wrote my current state as my legal residency because there was no other choice on Fafsa. Can anyone help me?

I think living in a state for more than 12 months makes you a resident of that state.

it is going to depend on the school -- for many dependent students, your residency is that of your parents regardless of where you or they live. They may make an exception in your case.

usually you can do a search of your school and "residency" and come up with a list of qualifiers.

from looking at your past posts, you seem to be applying to top private schools-- in that case, legal state residency does not effect tuition. If you are just concerned with which state you selected on the FAFSA, the state is used to determine income tax exclusions on the financial aid methodology -- so the state you live in is probably your best bet -- but you can always call FAFSA and double check.
