Lehigh on SAT ii's (Subject Tests)

I am planning on applying ED1 for Lehigh this year, and am wondering about how to prepare. I am scheduling my SAT ii's, but don't know which or how many to take.

I am in honors Pre-calc, should I take math 1 or 2? Or both? I will get a higher score if I take math 1, but will taking math 2 took better?

Also, as I intend to be a bio major going to a Pre-med route, should I take the bio sat?

Other than that, I can't think of any others! Any advice?

Well I applied RD this year and I took the Math 1 & Bio SAT II, Bio/Pre-Med as well. :)

i would definitely take math 2, it looks better. bio is a good one to take and it is very easy to get a good score - i took level one bio as a sophomore and had a horrible teacher, i had to teach myself an entire year’s worth of material in less than a month and i got a 710. i would take a third to make you look well-rounded - english lit, a language or a history. i took us history, world history and lit and did well on all of them. it’s all about how well you take a test and not about how well you actually know the material so if you study hard enough, you will be fine.

Hi Lehigh2017,

If you’re financially able, spend the extra money on the testing. I would recommend taking the Math I, Math II, and Biology SAT IIs. You may even consider taking Chemistry in place of Math I - biology majors take plenty of chemistry, as well. It’s okay if you don’t take Math I but go on to Math II, which may be slightly more challenging if you’re taking pre-calc. Math I is a replay of the basic math seen on the regular SATs.

Also, consider taking the ACT. Although Lehigh only requires the SAT I or the ACT, the ACT contains science sections, which shows your ability as a potential science major.

Best,

Thanks, LehighChemE,

I would love to take the Chem Sat, but I have only have 1 year of honors chem, hardly enough to earn me an impressive score. With your suggestions and those of others, I am going to take Math I & II and biology.

I’ve never considered taking the ACT - although you make a great point!

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

My DS took the Chem subject test at the end of soph year after taking Honor Chem (taking AP as a senior next year). He went through one of the study books (can’t remember which one) and scored in the mid 700s. He loves chem so this was a natural for him. It’s not like he spent months studying either. Just want to tell you that it is do-able.

He’s also taken Math II and will take Physics this June (after AP Physics). He might not need a third SAT II, but he’s a good test taker when it comes to math/science and, since he will be taking AP test and NYS regents exam in physics, he might as well take the subject test too.

FYI - He is in honors Intro to Calc this year and took the Math Ii test in January (scored in the 700s). You should be fine with this test. Just take several practice tests. DS just had to be refreshed on some problems that he learned years ago.

Lehigh is one of his top schools and will be applying in the fall (but not ED).

Good luck to you!
