Lehigh Pros and Cons

Hey everyone,

I’m working on finalising my college list so I can get started on the supplemental essays as fast as I possible.

While I was doing this, I was researching a bit about Lehigh University. The first time I had researched about Lehigh I saw only positive feedback. There were excellent college student reviews, very good feedback, good facilities, etc etc. But I decided to double check. And when I did, suddenly a lot of negative stuff came up. There were people who were saying that it’s a total party school, and all people do is drink and get high, and that there would be a lot of racism and sexism to deal with. As an Indian female student who’s gonna study in the US for the first time, it’s a big concern. They also said that the heads and the governing body is pretty useless and just ignore the complaints of students. including minor physical assault.

I wanted to know if this was just exaggerated or actually true because I was considering Lehigh as one of my top colleges.

Could you guys please give me your own experiences or tell me what people you know went thru? I’m really stressed here. Please help!

Lehigh has a “work hard, play hard rep”. My D21 has crossed it off because it’s heavily Greek and a few stories from females about poor treatment at frat parties, Greek life was suspended before Covid, so remains to be seen if the will reign it in.
The school does have a great academic record and gorgeous campus.

What did you see the first time that put Lehigh on your list? Where are you doing research? What do you intend to study?

I would consider going over this thread, Hopefully, this would help answer your question: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/student-here-ask-me-anything/2190699-rising-sophomore-at-lehigh-ask-me-anything-p1.html

Okay. So Lehigh DOES have a party environment but if you stick with the right people ur good. Right? Also. Not being part of greek life wont have a huge impact on the social scene would it?

The first time I was researching I gathered that Lehigh had a 100% job placement, a very active campus, very strong academically, one of the highest paid alumni, more than 150 clubs and organisations, and a very good research department.

A good research department is necessary for me because I want to major in cognitive science with a business minor. I went thru multiple sites. for the more dry and statistical stuff I used niche and prepscholar. To actually understand how the campus would be I looked at a lot of college student reviews. A few on niche, reddit, quora and here collegeconfidential of course

I just went thru it. It did help me a little. Thank you!

Hi! Rising second year at Lehigh here, I hope I can be of some help. First, I’m not a party person really, but I must admit I’ve had some of the best nights of my life when I went out - so being a “party school “ actually worked out nicely for me. It’s always good to have the option to go out imo. Academics are great and I’ve already scored an internship through the alumni network for next summer.

I’m not in Greek life either, and I found a solid group of friends and know there are so many more people out there to meet. I’m very, very happy here.

I don’t want to diminish anyone’s personal experiences, but I do believe those reviews are from people who do not expect partying in college and/or who have had trouble making friends. I say this because many of my friends don’t like to party, but are thriving regardless. There are also so many clubs and ways to meet people, and so much that the university has to offer.

Hi everyone, I’m applying to Lehigh with the intended major of political science. I was wondering if anyone on here could offer some input on polysci at Lehigh and the pros and cons of arts and sciences here in general. Thanks:)

I have heard the same about Lehigh being a huge party school and since their ban of greek life last year applications to the school decreased by 20% which says a lot right there.

I would also look into Bucknell. They are similar, but parties there I heard our very social rather than the typical parties at other colleges.
