Last year, I applied to Lehigh University and was unfortunately rejected. There was a mishap with my midyear report...it was sent out saying I was failing AP Calc BC, when in fact I was getting an A. Lehigh never received my corrected miyear report until two weeks before decisions went out...so I think that might have had something to do with me getting rejected. I'll never know...

However, I am deciding to reapply as a transfer student! i am still absolutely in LOVE with the school. I HATE where I am now...Rutgers University, School of Engineering. I hate the amount of people that go here, it's so ugly, my professors don't teach at all, the buses...it's a good university, but it's just not the one for me.

So...this time around I NEED to make sure I am accepted to their engineering program. I don't know what I'll do if I'm not. The last thing I want to do is go through that sort of rejection again and spend yet another awful year at Rutgers.

I wanted some advice from everyone on here about what I can do to really make my application shine. I'm doing well in my classes so far, but what will give my application that extra kick...

I know having applied already will help, and I am also a legacy...I plan on visiting the school again once or twice. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would be GREATLY appreciated!

TL;DR

I previously applied to Lehigh University and was rejected...What do I need to do to make my transfer application shine?

In the same boat. I’m at SUNY Binghamton. I went to save some money, even though I had the means to go to any private school, and now I’m regretting that I didn’t. I got wait listed from Lehigh, but am currently on the track of 3.8-4.0 here. I sent an email to the transfer admissions help email, but they haven’ answered me. So I’d love to hear from anyone who transferred into engineering and the types of things you did in college to get you there, currently the only thing I’m doing here is EWB.

I had a 3.8 GPA from 2 years at my previous school, not much participation, but was in an honors scholars program and got to do additional research for some of my more difficult classes. Write a good essay and make your application reflect upon your academic strengths. Also in your essay make sure you don’t forget to explain WHY LEHIGH. Let them know you’re excited about their school and they’ll be excited to accept you. GOOD LUCK!

Request a personal interview with your admissions officer. Try to schedule that during a time of year that they aren’t so busy. Summer would be good. Good Luck!

Definitely go for an interview. Reiterate that lehigh has always been the place for you and the kinds of contributions you can make there. I remember how upsetting it was for you. Let us know how things turn out.

The trick is to visit, then visit again and when finished visit the school once more! They want to be sure if you are accepted that you would attend. Call your admisions rep and ask some intelligent questions, not what the weather is like in Bethlehem, as every time you make contact it is recorded in your file! Show interest!!!

Thanks for all of your advice! I visited the school back in the fall. The ONLY school I applied to as a transfer student is Lehigh - so my common app essay ended up being ALL about them. My recommendations were absolutely phenomenal, and for my first semester as an engineer at Rutgers University, I managed to make the deans list with a 3.4 GPA. I have been in contact with many different areas of Lehigh, from the financial aid office, the transfer admissions counselors, the registrar, and even the head of the mechanical engineering department (where I applied to be in). Also, as I already stated I applied last year. I’m hoping all of this combined will make my application shine through. I can only dream of going to Lehigh at this point!
