Hey guys, I applied to Lehigh University and I was wondering if anyone could chance me. FYI, I applied as a Computer Science major in the college of engineering and I did not apply for the integrated program. I’m an Indian male, and I know a few other kids from my school who applied to Lehigh, one or two of which had slightly higher GPAs, but none of which had extracurriculars and test scores even close to mine.
I had a 34 on my ACT, a 1440 on my new SAT, and a 1450 on my old SAT. I’ve taken every single AP class my school offers (and two more outside). My class rank is currently 60 out of 750, and my weighted GPA is about a 98.2 out of 100. I have some decent extracurriculars:
- I developed 2 social networks during my time in high school, one of which got $85,000 in accelerator funding from Facebook's FBStart.
- I did a fellowship with the PA Democrats in my area.
- I'm a Life Scout and currently working on my Eagle, which I should get in 2 months.
- I ran a camp for underprivileged children at a local community center where I taught them how to make video games.
- I worked as a professional software developer at 2 large firms.
- I wrote a blog to teach iOS development to beginners.
- I developed websites for 2 local restaurants.
I would LOVE to get into Lehigh, and I was wondering if anyone on here is willing to give me their (very honest) opinion on whether or not they think I’ll get in.
Have you shown any demonstrated interest? That seems to be very important to Lehigh, especially for students with very high scores. I would recommend visiting and trying to connect with a professor who could alert the admissions office of your interest in Lehigh. My daughter met with a professor and her regional admissions officer confirmed that they talked about her, and I believe that helped her candidacy.
Lehigh is only about an hour from where I live. I visited one day but the admissions office was closed. However, I did email an admissions counselor and tell her about my visit. I’m planning on having a formal visit but they don’t start up again for another 2 weeks or so. I recently emailed a professor to try and discuss his research with him and I’m waiting for a response. Thanks for the answer!
its true that Lehigh cares greatly about demonstrated interest. Reach out to your admissions counselor and ask them to help you schedule a day or half day visit at Lehigh. Ask them if it would be possible to speak to some of the professors in your area of interest, and meet with some of the students that have similar interests to you. Lehigh cares about kids that care about Lehigh.
Wow, you are very talented and Lehigh would be lucky to have you as a student.
taliecharley, Excellent catch about the lack of demonstrated interest. It actually really hurts your chances that you live so close to campus and don’t have a documented visit. Get that fixed right away!!!
Please let us know if you get accepted! Good luck to you!!!
You sound like a great candidate! Lehigh loves demonstrated interest and essays - they’re what make applicants stand out. So if you feel like you did a good job on your supplements and you continue to show interest, I would put your chances at high considering your stats are excellent.
Anybody know if we will find out today?
