Lehigh vs. UNC-chapel hill

Hi, I’m considering these two colleges (among others) and was just hoping people who know about either college could tell me more about them? ex. reputation, social life, academic difficulty, etc. Thanks!

other than being research universities where students like to party, they’re not alike in size, athletics, courses offered (UNC has no engineering, for instance, something for which Lehigh is well known; UNC has strong social sciences and humanities, something for which Lehigh is not well known); one’s private, one’s public (and really hard for OOS students to get into).

We could be more helpful if we knew more about you and your interests.

Thanks @jkeil911‌ , my overall high school gpa is 4.0 unweighted, my psat was 2020, I’m OOS for both, and I think I would major in education or some kind of writing/journalism

With that type of interest, you’d be better suited to UNC. What’s your SAT? It’s extremely competitive OOS.

@Vctory‌ I take my first SAT in march, but my psat of 2020 was with no studying, so Im expecting to do better

@collegebound1516 Best of luck. Do you have any questions about Chapel Hill? I was admitted to Honors Carolina, but unable to attend for financial reasons. The school I’m now has a similar culture, however, and I can probably answer some specific culture questions for a big basketball school/large research university.

@Vctory‌ ya, I do thanks! So I’m an academic person but I don’t want to be overwhelmed by academics like I would in an Ivy, you know? I’m just worried that chapel hill would be too intense, what do you think?

Lehigh’s students are academically similar to UNC, so if you think UNC would be too intense because of the caliber of students…Lehigh’s students are similar. If there is a difference, it is likely because of the atmosphere or some kind of personality difference between the students who are attracted to either school.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you are serious about education, Lehigh does not have a regular four-year undergraduate education program. They do have a 5-year program leading to a BA + an M.Ed with teacher certification in a variety of fields.

If weather means anything to you, it’s been bitterly cold in PA for the past couple weeks!

@juillet‌ thanks thats really helpful… and yes the weather does mean something! Im from CA and my parents keep telling me I will freeze on the east coast… Im afraid they’re going to be right :sob:
