Hi,
I was wondering, is Lehigh’s business school highly ranked compared to other schools? I’ve heard a lot of good things about the program, but based on online rankings, Lehigh isn’t ranked highly in business (either unranked or around the 60s). If I wanted to major in business administration, would Lehigh be a good college for me to go to? I really wanna go to a top 20 business school, and I’m worried Lehigh won’t offer me the business experience possible.
Hello dh173…Lehigh is ranked plenty high enough for people to know the quality of the programs there and what they offer. My advice to you would be to thoroughly investigate the business school website for what they offer and their placement results. Take the initiative to talk to people there and try to make contact with some alumni. I believe most would be very willing to share their experiences. Lehigh alums are usually a very loyal bunch. It would help you answer your question.
And, as an old Lehigh alum myself, I would offer you the following advice: pay more attention to how YOU rank than to how your school ranks. Perform well academically, get involved in other activities, network. Successful people are successful mostly because of their own personal characteristics and talents…not so much because of the school they went to. It’s not to say that college rankings mean nothing…it’s just not as much as you think.
And most importantly, try to see if Lehigh would be a good fit for you…socially as well as academically. Take it from me, the social experiences are just as important, if not more so, than your academic ones.
Good luck to you!
@SonofAsa1 Thank you m8! That was really helpful and very true. Btw, do you know if Lehigh offers a lot of opportunities for business majors? I believe I am someone who is very involved, but if there aren’t a lot of opportunities for business majors, then it might be a bit harder for me to do so.
You’re welcome dh173. From what I can see, they offer various internship opportunities, study abroad, business oriented clubs and such. All the normal things that good schools offer. But, remember, the Lehigh I graduated from no longer exists…it has been replaced by a far better and more well-rounded institution, I believe. I only come here occasionally to offer my perspective, gained from 20/20 hindsight. Some things that I thought were really important almost half a century ago turned out not to be…and vice a versa.
Like I said, go to the CBE or Admissions sites and dive in. Compose some introductory emails with your questions and fire them off to a few members of faculty or administration that you think can give you the info you need. The contacts are all there. All good experience for business and it shows the university you have initiative. If they respond ( I trust they will) thank them and consider what they say. If they don’t respond, that tells you something too.
BTW- I wouldn’t wait too long to do it, either. Summer will be here before you know it. Administrators and faculty need time off too!
Again, good luck.
This should be helpful: http://www1.lehigh.edu/news/lehigh-accounting-and-finance-programs-ranked-among-top-nation
It says, “The just-released LinkedIn University Rankings recognized Lehigh University’s College of Business and Economics undergraduate accounting program as No. 4 in the nation, and the finance program as No. 18 in the nation.”
I got accepted to their business school, econ major. May switch to accounting now But everyone in my family is an accountant, and accounting is boring, so blah.
2 years late m8!!! xD
Jk, thank you though. Yeah I heard that accounting is good, consistent employment, but there’s no bigger picture aspect with your job. I feel like no job can really entertain me except me being my own boss (Business Administration or Entrepreneurship!!).
How’s the on campus recruiting for finance?
