Length of Northwestern Statement on supplement?

I have a faint memory of reading somewhere that it was a 1000 character limit, but now looking on the common app supplement, I see no indication of a character or word limit? Does anyone know what the appropriate length of the Northwestern Statement is?

Thank you for any help!

I think for most people, it was around 400-600 words, but you could write from 250-750 words if you wanted. I’m pretty sure there was no specifications on the writing prompt about the word or character count, so don’t worry.

Thank you.

What about the optional research supplement? I worked in a lab over the summer and I plan to write an abstract about my research. Is there a word limit and should I include a layman’s explanation as well? Also, I wonder who reads the research supplement, the standard adcom or a someone with expertise in the field.

Since I didn’t write a research paper, I wrote a summary instead of an abstract of my research. If you wrote an abstract, then use that. If not, then just summarize. The summary/abstract shouldn’t be more than 250 words in my opinion.
