^ so obviously, then, his awards tided him over. That's basically what it is- give or take. You don't have good standardized testing, so you have a lot of awards. You don't have any leadership, so you do something independently that rocks. Nothing hard to understand about that.

I see a lot of mid-2200's getting in to good colleges, but I always considered that a good score. Do Ivies look at it differently?

The thread has grown, and it's time for another link to my FAQ on class sizes and the number of students at different scoring levels.

The cumulative frequency of scores of 2300 or above is low enough that many colleges MUST admit students with lower scores.

Poisonous, it is a good score, yes.

lol so does anyone get into Ivy with SAT score <2100 :-?

here's an idea: let's start a thread of people who got into really selective colleges with a gpa of <3.9 - now that's much harder

I agree, masterodisaster. I saw your thread and am in the same position as you are :)

Ashraf you need to chill bro.

2340 and brain surgery = ivy.

a friend of mine got an 1880 and got into Stanford...o and he was Val.

bad joke, decided not to crack

I just realized how stupid this thread is. I did some research, and here's what I found:

School Name - Average SATI Score
Yale - 2240
Harvard - 2230
Princeton - 2220
MIT - 2170
Stanford - 2150
Dartmouth - 2150

Those are just the very TOP schools... You can obviously see that MOST students at top colleges score below a 2300.

where's your source and what are the cr/m breakdowns?

Source:

Advanced college finder - find colleges and universities using QuickFinder.

Search for the college name, then go to the "How Do I Stack Up" section, and it shows the lower 25th and upper 75th percentile scores.

Here's another similar, but more recent link. Congrats to those admitted and good luck to applicants for the class of 2013!

doubt:

when people here say their GPA is say 3.9, do they refer to their final year GPA or average of secondary school, midyear and final year GPA's?

I assume its their overall GPA.

Poisonous - There are many URMs to account for.
