Less than one week to decide, Please HELP. Indiana University vs. University of Notre Dame

Thanks again for all your comments guys. I agree that the most logical decision is IU, maybe i am being stupud but i really felt at home at ND, kind of where my heart is. Any more thoughts?

Specifically does anyone think that ND will work better at getting into the top med schools like Harvard and Johs Hopkins, i thought it might , but dont know for certain

@Churchill1945, I feel for you. I know there is a lot of pressure to attend IU, but it seems your heart is at ND. I assume you’ve read this, but if not I wanted to link it: https://preprofessional.nd.edu/prospective-students/faq/

If this is about prestige, definitely choose IU. It’s not worth the perceived prestige to choose ND. It won’t make a measurable difference for admission to med or law school. But if your heart is at ND, and it’s about the community, then contrary to my earlier post I’d say go there. I worry that if you go to IU you will always wonder, What if?

I don’t know what you decided, but all I will say is that the prestige of the school is great and all, but it doesn’t always mean that much. My brother went to Harvard Law School, he needed the prestige. But you know what? He hates working. So after all that, he spent a ton of money to be working at a place that he could have went to any state law school and gotten. So in the end, the name isn’t always everything.

I’m curious to know what the OP decided as well. Had I seen this post on time, I would have suggested the OP call the financial aid office at ND to see if they could take a second look at the financial aid package.

@59erDad
The mention of your brother resonates. I have a good friend who went to Harvard Law School and he has struggled to find a job. He lives in a smaller city, a city with great pride in their state law school, and a law degree from Harvard is often not well received.
Another example is my D’s history teacher who has a law degree from Columbia—he’d rather teach high schoolers than practice law!
