Let’s get ready for college football! 🏈

The dawgs still have some teeth, apparently.

:joy:… I was just joking around. I am hosting a Michigan /Michigan State gathering since some of my friends, son and wife went to Michigan or have kids there and the other half went to MSU… Lol

I got that, @Knowsstuff.

But it never hurts to post the schedule for anyone who really was wondering.

We have MSU friends, too. But not next Saturday.

We attended the Penn State - Minnesota whiteout game. It’s always an amazing experience. Word had it that it was against Minnesota because Ohio State did not want to face the white out again :joy:.

Pulling for another Oregon-Utah PAC12 championship game. Chance of it happening is low and brain does not wrap itself around the tie-breaker scenario.

Not sure if UCLA is going to bounce back from the beating they took on Saturday

I think that would require Utah beating Oregon in Eugene and USC beating UCLA at the Rose Bowl. I think both will go the other way and it will be a UCLA-Oregon rematch in the championship game. But I’d really like Utah to beat Oregon and have a rematch with UCLA.

Well, I for one, am getting tired of the Big Noon (EST) B1G games on Fox. All the big B1G games seem to be played at 9:00 AM PST.

However, since Ohio State-Penn State is the big game this Saturday for Fox, Michigan-Michigan State gets played at 7:30 EST, which is awesome, since night games are so much better for fans, both in the stadium and the fans watching at home.

Interesting article in the Washington Post that “free agency has come to college football” following elimination of the requirement for transferring players to sit out one season and the availability of lucrative NIL (names, images and likenesses) deals to entice players to change teams.

What do you folks think about the new “Wild West” landscape of college football?

Oh no! We accepted a dinner invitation with friends we haven’t seen all summer, and DH just realized that it overlaps with the Michigan-Michigan State game tonight. Let’s see where his priorities lie.

They can’t be too good a friend if they weren’t aware of this conflict!

I have lots of thoughts here, too many to write out on a Saturday morning as I watch College Gameday even though my team has a bye this week.

TLDW (write) version: I’m glad the players are getting compensated (NIL) but think there needs to be more regulation on the transfer portal. My college has benefitted, but it just allows the rich programs to get richer, and that’s not good.

ETA: To me, it’s like the Citizens United of college football.

I grew up watching the NFL and loving my team (80s San Diego Chargers) and the players.

Now with fantasy and free agency, I watch players but not the team.

In College, I love my Orangeman as others love their Buckeyes or Nittany Lions or Bruins.

But the amount of transfers, while totally fair to the student, make it less authentic.

With the NIL, Syracuse is never going to compete with Bama, Clemson, Ohio State in the long run. But frankly, other than an occasional year or two, we weren’t going to even before.

In the end, it’s capitalism for the kids and compensation for the difficult lives some of these kids will endure later.

I just hope the get a good education in managing finances.

I, too, support football players getting paid given that college football has become so lucrative for so many parties (except the players until recently).

The said part is that it’s only some, not all - and the amounts vary greatly. Then again, that’s capitalism - and no different than any of us in our careers.

There’s typically outliers in compensation - especially in jobs where you draw different levels of revenue.
