Lets discuss about Jacobs University Bremen

Hey guys, we all know that JUB has been hosting a huge number of Nepali students till now and this year itself, we have heard about acceptance of 4 Nepali students(in Round I!).
I guess this thread will be helpful to discuss abt JUB..

Good work confidential2015.

What is the difference between BE and BS in engineering?

Actually there is no difference at all. Europeans call it B.E whereas Americans call it a B.S :D

Well, you are right about the domination of public universities in Germany. And yes, JUB hasn’t earned a huge reputation because it is just 10 years old. One more thing you must remember about JUB is that they are not ABET certified. This doesn’t mean that they have a bad engineering program. But, you won’t be able to work in the US(if you plan to do so!) without appearing for some tests if you goto JUB.

I guess you meant JUB, you must have typed JHU accidentally, is it so?

JHU=Johns Hopkins University

No, it won’t. ABET is required only to work in the US.

I was like each of you.I applied to at-least 20 different colleges on my days. But admission officers never liked my application and scores.I am a denied tagged student from most of them.(well,no ! wait listed from some of those and later denied). My peers were successfully able to get into elite schools despite having comparatively low GPA and low SAT scores.

Today I am in the country side of USA where living expenses is not high, where there is no security threat, where people knows how to help and smile to the pedestrians nearby.Unlike those big cities where you put yourself on the other side of bullet proof glass pane on gas station , where Indian boss ask you to be on time for restaurant jobs, where colleges are second priority after a car and IPhone for Nepalese newcomers, I feel glad to be in a university like this.Well, I end up in top 80’s ranked university in the nation. However I would like to express my honest views concerning some threads :

Here are some observations that I made :

1)Nepalese students have a very good impression on elite schools-especially all those assiduous students studying at top 100 colleges and universities. That is a great news !!You may want to get Harvard and MIT,may be Kenyon or Berea (Well, i am not a big fan of LACs .They are focussed to send their students to graduate studies and have less opportunities for jobs.Overall they are good ).Just know that , if you are already there into Top 100 colleges of the United States,it all depends on your impact on college and your performance-AND nothing else. That is a only stepping stone to get into Harvard/MIT/Duke or whatever for your graduate career.I have seen couple of examples from the university that I am attending.I have plethora of examples where Nepalese go to graduate school at Purdue University,Duke,UIUC etc and get full-time jobs at Goldman-Sachs,Ernst and Young etc. within not more than 6 months after graduation. So if you have full tuition scholarship, welcome to the united states of America top 100–

2)Second thought–Trinity university, Sarah Lawrence college,Colby sawyer college, these are the frequent names that BNKS,SXC,Malpi students are longing for without knowing how much worth are they for.FYI, I have never heard of those universities’ research, on-campus job ratio, college infrastructures once I am already in the united states. But, I have heard of University of Arizona topped the list of Information Systems ranking, I have heard that University of Colorado achieve another research award for protein synthesis, I have heard that BYU topped accounting program and among highest job placement in the nation, I have heard that UMass,Amherst is in the computer science top 30 .Have you ever know and have heard of these names in Nepal? Yes,but i consider them not being that good-right? Because ,most of our fellow brothers and sisters, don’t understand that undergraduate degree is worth less than Graduate degrees, you guys are underestimating these colleges .I can totally say that those colleges that are popular in Nepal does not have to do anything with the Microsoft or National Instruments here, nor with Carnegie Mellon Internet security lab or University of Utah biomedical lab.So researching wisely about university helps and stop going with the crowd.

3)Thirdly, JUB is a good school but I would say if you end up admitting into top 100 colleges and universities in the USA with full tuition,it’s a lot worth more than JUB .Having said that, JUB is an excellent school but than sister organisation like Rice and NYU ,expects that German undergraduate students can go for graduate studies, not all. Three years of rigorous curriculum from JUB will no longer be valid when admission officer at US university said -“well,this kid did not even finish his Tech electives .Admitted but conditional”. Apart that, jobs are way higher paid and more in numbers in USA than Germany where you loan thousands of euro to get same level of education which united states is offering for 8000$ per year.So I would undoubtedly , stop going with the rumour and choose USA

May be I was little too familiar with the German System of Education, but I am not exaggerating. We are all normal college bound high school senior who wants to achieve their dream so quick.I just wanted to help .But , hey for those all applicants from Nepal, just a line of tips -“Wait,research and you will get”.

@confidential2015: merit scholarship kati payou? fin aid decision ayo? ani anyone else got accepted from SXC? also note that they accepted one from Kathmandu Academy (KA).

How important is the skype interview for Jacobs?

HEY ROUND II Applicants: Did u receive your ADMISSION PACKET yet?? And what about Financial aid???

@lopsided, I called them yesterday…they will E-MAIL us about the financial aid at the end of this week, or the beginning of next week…thats what they said.
