Let's get to know each other!

Hey, girls! I got this idea from a topic on the Wellesley forum (I am trying to choose between Smith and Wellesley), and I thought that anyone who is seriously considering Smith should come here and we could get to know each other a little.

Some questions:

What are your academic interests/intended major?

If money were no object, what would you do as a job?

What is your favorite book/movie?

What is a guilty pleasure of yours?

What is your greatest accomplishment?

If you could meet any dead person, who would you meet?

Nerdiness on a scale of 1-10?

What is your favorite food?

What do you like the most about Smith?

Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly)

1. What are your academic interests/intended major?
French and/or computer science
2. If money were no object, what would you do as a job?
Probably be a singer/songwriter, because I definitely couldn’t do that if I had to actually make money off of it, but I love it.
3. What is your favorite book/movie?
Book: Pride and Prejudice
Movie: Fried Green Tomatoes
4. What is a guilty pleasure of yours?
A*Teens and Tamora Pierce
5. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Singing on TV and not dying from fear
6. If you could meet any dead person, who would you meet?
Virginia Woolf
7. Nerdiness on a scale of 1-10?
Probably about a 7
8. What is your favorite food?
Either fettucini alfredo or pad thai
9. What do you like the most about Smith?
It really feels like a community from what I’ve seen.
10. Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly)
Tied with Wellesley and I am not looking forward to deciding.

1. What are your academic interests/intended major? Although I’m pretty undecided when it comes towards majors, at this point I’m thinking Government. As far as academic interests go, I love the humanities, and my current pet interest is cultural and critical theory.

2. If money were no object, what would you do as a job?
This changes on a daily basis. Maybe write/take photographs for National Geographic, write novels, travel the world, etc.

3. What is your favorite book/movie?
My favorite book also changes a lot, but at the moment it’s Fun Home: A Tragicomic
by Alison Bechdel. My favorite movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
**
4. What is a guilty pleasure of yours?**
Webcomics. Dork, me? Never. :]

5. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Getting this far in my independent study on critical/literary theory with my brain intact.

6. If you could meet any dead person, who would you meet?
ALICE PAUL! Love that woman.

7. Nerdiness on a scale of 1-10?
Appearance-wise, probably about a 5, 6. Though I’m actually more of a 7.5, 8.

8. What is your favorite food?
A tie between fresh corn on the cob, steamers (as in clams), and steak and cheese subs.

9. What do you like the most about Smith?
EVERYTHING. More seriously, initially I was interested in Smith because of the lack of distribution requirements, but now I’d say the intensity and passion of all of the alums/current students I meet is pretty damn cool. Oh, and I love the all-women environment. And the amount of acceptance towards the queer community. And–okay, I’ll stop now. :]

**10. Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly) **
Absolutely number one, but MHC gave me this kick-ass scholarship. Smith has my heart, MHC the small, rational part of my brain. The choice between the two is going to suck.

I love webcomics! Which ones do you read?
Oh, and check plus on the favorite foods. All super delicious, and you are most certainly from New England (am I right?)

I read xkcd and Questionable Content daily (or however often they’re update), and Girls with Slingshots. QC, obviously, gets extra points because it involves Northampton and “Smif.” :] What do you read?

Ahaha, yes, I am from New England. I love that you guessed that from my favorite foods. :]

Also, Tamora Pierce = my entire childhood, no joke. My copies of her books are loved to pieces–and by pieces I mean some of them are literally held together by tape.

I’ve heard of those, but I don’t read them. My good friend has really been trying to get me to read Questionable Content, though, so maybe I’ll try it. I read Misfile, Flipside, and I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space (which is my favorite).

Haha, of course. Come on, who else would know about steamers? And I think we all appreciate a nice steak and cheese sandwich (except the vegetarians).

Ah, me too. Alanna was my hero. Well, Daine, too, because when I was younger I wanted to be a vet. And Kel. Okay, they were all just awesome.

What are your academic interests/intended major?
English (with as many Creative Writing classes as possible! haha)/Art History/minor in Statistics because I’m cool and like to have combinations that don’t really make any sense. I’m also indecisive.

If money were no object, what would you do as a job?
Printmaking, probably.

What is your favorite book/movie?
Book: The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Bell Jar, The Invisible Man, 1984, Candide, A Tale of Two Cities, The Handmaid’s Tale, East of Eden… way too many to list here, and I certainly couldn’t narrow it down to one.
Movie: I never tire of the Prestige.

What is a guilty pleasure of yours?
Dipping french fries in my Frosty when I go to Wendy’s :x It’s disgusting and fattening but I can’t help doing it.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

23821983920184903123948239048302944.

What is your favorite food?
Avocado sushi.

What do you like the most about Smith?
A lot. A lot a lot. The housing system, the fact that it’s so close-knit… it also helps that they churned out Sylvia Plath but of course that was fifty years ago and it’s just a silly little hobby of mine to play favorites with alumni of the schools I’ve been accepted to. But y’know. The point is, I like Smith… a lot. :D

Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly)
Right now? It’s probably number one, and if not definitively so, it’s in the top few that I’m seriously looking at (Bryn Mawr, Oberlin, and McGill are, as well).

What is your favorite food?
Pork ribs and chips.

What do you like the most about Smith?
The housing system is really awesome and I really like that its woman only. Also although I want to do an engineering degree I like the fact that I can take other classes that are completely unrelated.

Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly)
Honestly at this point Smith College is my number one. I’m an international student and whether I can go to univeristy is utterly dependant on financial aid and I recieved an amazing offer from Smith which added to the fact that Smith looks kind of amazing means I’m very likely going to go there.

**Where does Smith rank on your list? (honestly) ** If I get rejected from all the schools I’m hearing back from today, it’s tied for #1 with Bryn Mawr!

HDM! I <3 Pullman.

HDM! I’ve loved that series for such a long time.

Also somebody else who is already out of school. I’m on a gap year at the moment and am also not bored.

I’m on a gap year too! In China :). What are you doing for yours?

I finished school in November 2007 (I’m from South Africa and our school year runs from January to November so by the time I start at Smith it’ll be close to two years that I’ve been out of school - which is a very scary thought)

I’m living and working in London at the moment. I’m also doing a bit of travelling to Europe when I can afford it.

China must be amazing. Its one of the places that I’d love to visit sometime.
