Let's say I am going for a science major...but only win a major writing award?

Hey guys, I am planning on going into biology in college and I am a junior right now.
Here is a hypothetical situation that I have a question about-

Let's say I plan on applying as a science major to an elite school...
and my extracurriculars match my science interest, but....
I won the Scholastic Writing Award (an award in the national level) and that is pretty
much the only major major major award I have on my application. Would that help me in the admissions process or would it be meaningless b/c i am going for science major?

should I just focus on winning major science awards (which would take much time and effort, so I would have to give up trying to apply to other major awards of another area)

The main reason I ask this is that
I am a junior and I haven't done that much with science yet. I plan on taking a college science course and science internship but that will all happen the summer before senior year and then if I decide to apply to awards or competitions, it'd not even happen before the applications in fall. I guess I am sort of a late bloom type lol. I don't think I am quite prepared to take on things such as National Olypiads or Intel. But for things like the writing competitions, I think I already have enough background necessary to produce a meaningful piece that has a chance.

What do you think? should I just forget the whole writing thing and push myself really hard to try to get something science-y? I don't think I can do both simultaneously, you know.
ANyway, with the writing stuff, I can do that this year, I don't have to wait for after summer...

I know there is such a small chance even in the scholarstic writing awards, but still...seeing my situation...

Well,
Thanks and sorry for the long post!
