Let's start a place for class of 2020 MIT hopefuls or something!

I know during that glitch some people could see EC information and some did not. Do you have EC information now?

Hi, Am an international applicatant. Got a late interview suprisingly. Did any of you get a late EA interview?

How late? Mine was a week after the interview deadline (20 october)

International applicant, interview was waived :frowning: That was a downer.

Most probably, they’ve already made our decisions. Freaky.

@Extinguisher My fate has been decided o.0

@EvenfallsWolf Already? Haha how come? A waived interview can affect you in no possible way. It only hurts if you’re given an interview and then you miss it on purpose.

Though I can’t tell if you meant that as sarcasm. O.o

Waived interview means that they don’t have a former student they can contact around there. It doesn’t decide anything.

Does MIT actually deny people in the early round? I thought you either get in or get deferred.

@nevergiveupp Yes. They deny around 1000.

@Extinguisher I live in a place with no alumni, hence the waived interview. About the “decided fate”, that was a small joke XD

:frowning:

I love the school, but my chances are pretty low.
SAT: 780, 710, 650 (M, R, W)
GPA: 3.7 UW
7 AP classes total, 4 this year, with 5’s on AP Phys A, Calc BC, and APCS tests.
SAT 2: 780 Phys, 800 Math 2
Taking AP Phys C, AP econ, AP gov, AP French, Brit. Lit., TA for our Physics teacher.
Taking multivariable calc this semester at local community college, lin. algebra next.

EC: Robotics, lots of tiny non-award winning projects I made in my free time, rock climbing, tutor a student in physics.

I honestly feel underwhelmed. I did a lot of stuff, but it isn’t really significant in the grand scheme of things. If I was less lucky, and went to some crappier school where the school didn’t have Seimen’s fair winners nearly every year, my scores and EC’s would be good. But I don’t; I go to an excellent school in the middle of Silicon Valley, with internships around every corner. I should’ve made better use of what I had (hopefully not going to make this mistake again in college!), but I did no such thing, and am now reaping what I sowed.

Anyway, to the rest of you all: Don’t let people be assholes to you (this thread’s been nice so far, so that’s good). You don’t need to win IMO, IOI, and the olympics to get into MIT. What matters is that you made do with what you had. Jerks will be jerks - don’t take them to heart. Be the first person in your school to go to MIT! Do it! In the worst case, you lose like 7 hours of a minimum wage job. Money like that may be hard to come by, but it’s worth it to chase your dreams.

(Yes, I realize it’s ironic that my 3rd paragraph is basically the opposite of my 4th. It’s hard not to develop an inferiority complex when everyone I know in real life seems to be doing better in terms of stats than I am. My school is weird…)

Addendum to the above: Just because you make an olympiad or did crazy stuff doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get into MIT! I hate it when people think I’m paranoid for worrying about getting in :|.

@yaytrees @tutututututuru @techygirl I really hope it’s 12/12 at 12:12 pm and not 12/19 at 12:19 pm!! This year they are also dealing with international applicants in EA round which means more more apps to read. Maybe they will announce international on a different date?

Nothing on the blog. Am I the only one who is stalking it? I haven’t seen anything about selection committee starting or Matt wearing a tie.

If it’s 12/19 I’m gonna do something drastic man. I might even punch a punching bag

@qwerytiop Yeh, I’ve known people who did well on AMC/AIME but still didn’t get in. IMO makes your chances high, and probably above 50% chance, but that’s still grounds for paranoia.

I missed my interview because the interviewer confirmed my email the night before, really late. Should I ask for another interviewer or reschedule with the same interviewer and hope that she doesn’t have a negative impression of me?

You should just apologize and say you missed the email. But why didn’t you check that morning?

@tutututututuru
She hadn’t replied in several weeks, so I guess I didn’t expect her to confirm. Yeah I apologized. Hopefully she’s willing to reschedule. I’m just afraid that if she doesn’t reply again that I’ll miss the deadline to schedule with another interviewer
