Highschool is not just a four year prep course for college. I guess we can talk about other things like what we like doing in our free time (and maybe how those can help us improve our resumes). In my free time I love reading books and listening to music. I also really like and am good at writing, drawing, making video edits and creating logos (I write words in many different ways) . I do ballet too but thats not exactly free time. What do you like doing in your free time?
@ivystateofmind It sounds nice! Thanks for making this thread!
I am a rising tenth grader and have a huge passion for reading and writing stories. I do both often and am currently working on one large story about a teen boy’s life from eighth grade through eleventh grade. It’s been in production for almost a year because I keep making it changes to it, but I love doing it. I also love watching movies and sometimes make screenplays during my free time.
I’m also a swimmer and swim every season, and swam in the high school team in 9th grade, except I haven’t been able to for the past four months due to a rare disease, known as acne conglobata. I can only hope Accutane is enough to end it.
I’m also vastly into politics, history, philosophy, news, psychology, sociology, love, and astronomy. All of those topics are things I’m always curious and wondering about. I also love listening to music, like you do. I like all sorts of songs, from modern pop to old pop to country. If you haven’t, I recommend listening to the band “Sleeping at Last”, the band is my favorite one, and the best songs they’ve made, in my opinion, are Sun, Saturn, and Light. I recommend them to you because you love music.
Thanks again and have a good day!
(P.S. I may have more things I like, but this is all I can think of the top of my head.)
This is a great thread idea!
I’m a freshman in high school. I love basketball very much. I play every year and watch every NBA game I can. I’m a huge Cleveland Cavaliers fan! I also love college basketball- I cheer for the U of Michigan and Ball State U. I love to watch college football, too, and I cheer for the same teams.
I really enjoy making lists. I make clothes shopping lists, college lists, class lists, whatever it is, I love making lists. I don’t really know why, but it’s a big hobby of mine.
I love working with statistics. I often make original posts for an NBA forum that are almost always based off of stats. I also make stat sheets for fantasy basketball and football.
Music is a big part of my life. My favorite artists are Tyler, the Creator and Pink Floyd. I always listen to music, whether it be when I’m running or working on homework. My favorite genre is rock or 60s, 70s, and 80s pop. My favorite song is probably One of My Turns by Pink Floyd.
I really love nature. I want to study Environmental Science when I go to college. I like to go on walks through the woods and to investigate the rocks, trees, and plants. I also like to sit by lakes and rivers and play with the water and just relax and look at it. I especially love to kayak. It’s super relaxing. Sitting on the lake and taking in the view is a perfect scene for me.
My favorite genres of books are sports and school books. They’re super lighthearted and easy to read. When it comes to sports books, my favorites are books about basketball and football.
I love to learn about science. I own a bunch of space and earthside science books and encyclopedias. Space is also pretty cool. I like to look at pictures of space and the different things in space!
Again, this is a great and fun thread for CC!
I draw, do origami, and make wire sculptures. I also read whenever I can, mostly fantasy and sci-fi books, as well as some history/historical fiction. I do a bit of photography as well, but I’m not very good.
@anthonytheboy
Thanks a lot for replying! Your story seems very cool. There is an app called wattpad where you can read other peoples stories and upload your own. I used to upload my own stories there but theyre pretty old and in greek. You should check this app out anyway if you want to give and take feedback! Im a rising sophomore too. I used to do swimming for about two years and I loved it but then I unfortunately didnt have time for both ballet and swimming so I chose ballet. I hope you will get better soon and be free to practise swimming again! I will check this band out too thanks for the recommendation. I really like my chemical romance, bring me the horizon, fall out boy, panic! at the disco and evanescence but I dont know how exactly their genre is called. I liove psychology too, I also joined psychology club this year nd I learned many things which I ound really inreteresting. Anyway I am happy you liked my thread!
You’re welcome and thank you so much for all your kind words! It really is appreaciative. Oh man, Fall Out Boy is really great too. I agree with that a lot. I do know what Wattpad is, but I never used it. Thanks for recommending it to me. I will make sure to try it out. @ivystateofmind
Have a good day!
I’m a senior, but I never started to develop my passions until junior year. I really love art now and while I sometimes feel behind compared to others, I have so much fun seeing myself improve! It’s connected me to so many nice people who enjoy the same shows/games/music I do, and that’s been a helpful experience for my introverted self. I love reading about art history as well.
I used to swim for 9 years competitively, but it was stressful and irritating at the time. After a year break, I discover that I really missed the water. Now I’ve rejoined but without the pressure, and I’m really enjoying myself again.
I love reading about everyone’s passions; I’ve always admired people who can devote so much time to something, and I think it’s absolutely adorable and inspiring. Keep doing what you love!
@CavsFan2003
I am happy you liked my thread! I have that love for lists too (I thought I was the only one). I list everything you can imagine. I will definitely check those artists out! I really admire nature too and I want to spend time learning about it at some point of my life! My favourite books are fantasy ones, to be honest I’ve never read a sports book. Again, thanks for reading and replying to my thread!
@Corinthian53
Wow, you really seem like an artsy person! Do you show your work anywhere?
@agentaquastar
I myself used to feel behind about my art compared to others, but ive realised that the point of art is not to compare yourself to other people. Art is actually about expressing yourself and having fun! I think that deciding to reduce the pressure to enjoy swimming more was very wise. I am happy for you enjoying yourself doing what you love again. I find people talking about their passions and interests very inspiring too and thats the main reason i created this thread (and to give us a break). What kind of shows do you like?
@ivystateofmind Thank you! And yes, I love how everyone has their own way of showing us a part of their soul through art! I mostly like anime and cartoons haha; I find relaxing and less intense shows to be a great break from school. I especially love natsume yuujinchou, anything by studio ghibli, and atla
I don’t have Netflix anymore and never drew these series, as I’m not comfortable drawing actual people, but I enjoyed the get down, the office, and planet earth as well. I think my taste is a little random…
Hello everyone, I am a rising sophomore year as well! One of my passions is really unique for someone in my grade. I really like to create poetry about everything in daily life, from statistics, to things I like to do, and yes, even about the stresses of high school! I can write numerous poems in a day. I do not think they are that good, but it makes me happy so I do it! I am also in the process of making a book about the life of a high schooler and teenager, but that idea is still a work-in-progress.
One random passion that I like is business and the idea of social entrepreneurship. I really like to contribute and try to be activists for outreach groups, vocally. I wish I had the money to donate, but it is the volunteering that counts, right. I hope to be a businessman when I am older, and to help serve even more communities.
Another passion that I have is the passion and yearning for leadership. I am part of a Jewish youth group, called BBYO, which has a heavy emphasis on leadership roles. This makes me want to cater to more young people, whether you are Jewish or not. Skills like programming, and membership can be applied for anything, whether a simple club or a more complex group of people. Every skill is practical, in my opinion.
I also love during simple activities, such as bowling, and dancing, and relaxing. These activities are great for the mind and the soul, especially after stressful guidance counselor interactions, especially about classes. My activity that I forgot to mention that I like is eating. I have a passion for eating, because I love food.
I love politics, history, psychology, and in deeply in to the impacts of the environment, otherwise known as environmental science. I have a passion to talk about politics. You can talk to me about that any time. I love history to learn about historians and the rights and wrongs of other people, as this corresponds into psychology, where I believe it is fascinating to learn what is inside the minds of people. I also love environmental science. This corresponds to my passion for protecting the environment, from the destruction of evil humans.
Oh yeah, I love statistics as well as lists for entertainment, but for learning!
I like pop music, and 80s music as well!
I am jumping on the bandwagon, that this is a cool thread!
