Let's talk college dorm stories.
Did you enjoy staying at a dorm or did you feel like a prisoner?
Are apartments more fun for the first two years or dorm?
Did you become friends with your roommate or just talk when you really needed to?

What would you recommend people to bring when moving in for the first time?
What did you forget to bring or what extras did you bring?

I became friends with my roommate, but not until mid-semester. She was kind of cold at first. I have really enjoyed dorm living. We have had a ton of fun and it’s great to always be in the thick of things. I’ll be a senior next year and will be staying in the dorms, though getting a single just for convenience.

What things to bring I really think depends on the person. I brought the biggest size fridge I was allowed to have with a separate freezer, and that is by far my most
prized possession. XD I definitely recommend a rug, though, regardless of if you have carpet, your own little vacuum, and some lamps that will be less harsh than the fluorescence. Possibly bed risers so you can store stuff underneath but you might want to get to school first to make sure the kind you get will fit, my dad had to custom make mine.

This is my room, a shot from each side. It’s too big to fit in one pic…

my dorm room is about the same size…my roommate and I fit a nice full-size couch in it and as a result our room is the most popular one on our floor :P

Believe people when they say that different dorms on your campus have different feels. The dorm I’m in is an honors dorm and I HATE it, so I spend all my time in the non-honors dorms. I think they’re so much fun and living in close proximity of others make it so easy to meet people. Our rooms come carpeted with a microwave and fridge, so I only really brought clothes and toiletries…

No they do not. My school will allow you to rent one, though, I think. I just bought a fridge with a big freezer and a microwave myself. Not cheap but soo worth it.

Also yeah, I got lucky, my room is 14x19. Not all the rooms at Michigan are that large, though I think most of the rooms in South Quad are pretty big, I live in East. I think this used to be a triple, since there are three closets. I can’t imagine why they made it a double when there are smaller triple and quad rooms elsewhere.

My room is decorated a little better now, those pics were taken back when I first moved in. :)

My favorite part is the fridge. <3 I have three red baron pizzas, some beef tips, some stouffers macaroni, some frozen yogurt, hot dogs, an ice pack, and french toast sticks in the freezer as well as a full size ice tray. Plus a two gallon water tank, pop, juice, milk, cheese, bread, bagels, cream cheese, apples, and butter in the fridge. The lady at the desk threw a huge fit when I moved in about it not being legal but it totally is, it is the same size as the other 4ish cubic feet fridges but it is taller and thinner so you can have the freezer, and it’s less than an amp.

I am trying to move into a smaller room with private bathroom sans roommate, actually. A big room isn’t everything.
